Go with Ubuntu, it is the most popular Linux OS and has the most guides available.

If you want to use cPanel and WHM, pick CentOS. If don't want a control panel at all, both Debian and Ubuntu are fine choices.

If I pick CentOS I get Cpanel for like free or?

No. cPanel is not free and you need to purchase it separately. The way I see it, you need a managed vps considering you do not have any idea on how to handle vps.

No, you still have to get a cPanel license. You should ask the hosting provider you are considering for the price. Also, as this is your first VPS, make sure you get a managed one.

I think centOS + cPanel good for you and make your websites management easier for you

Get a Centos based VPS with cPanel/WHM and as others have said make sure it's a managed service.

cPanel is of course nice to manage hosting environment. If you are searching for something free, you can choose Centos + CWP (Centos Web Panel). Its completely free.

If you choose CentOS, other option for panel, you can use free panel like kloxo-mr/ISPConfig3/centos web panel If cPanel, there an extra charge for the license

I've been through the same process myself - I ended up using Virtualmin as a control panel, it's free and works fine with Ubuntu. Ubuntu seems much more up to date and comprehensive than CentOS. My tutorial at www.mckerracher.net/vps might help you.

cPanel consumes relatively a lot of system resources. If you're going to use this panel, make sure that the VDS is powerful enough to run both cPanel and your website. You might want to use any equivalent instead. I would recommend ISP manager. It can be provided for free as a demo for 14 days. Check their website if you're interested: ispsystem[dot]com
