Named Servers and Moving WHMCS

Posted by yandoo, 07-22-2014, 07:42 AM
Hiya I was hoping for some advice please. I have a web hosting reseller account and use WHMCS. I want to move it from one cpanel and domain account to a new cpanel an another. So I have 2 cpanel accounts under different domain names. I have changed the necessary settings in WHMCS and moved the WHMCS DB and directory to the new Cpanel domain. The problem is that I want my old named servers to work for older clients but from now on use the named servers dns for new clients, e.g. ns1.olddomain.com ns2.olddomain.com ns1.newdomain.com ns2.newdomain.com I'm not sure what settings I need to change to make this happen? I thought I could park the old domain name but this can't be done whilst there is already an account. So I guess I would need to add A records in WHM for the old domain name to point to the new domain name?? This is where I'm lost and would really appreciate some guidance. Ultimately when everything is switched over and working I will take the old domain name account offline. Thank you Last edited by yandoo; 07-22-2014 at 07:43 AM. Reason: spelling mistake

Thanks for your reply and sorry if I'm not being clear. Yes I have one reseller account At the moment I have ns1.olddomain.com and ns2.olddomain.com pointing to different ips from web hosting company. I need it so for previous customers who have set their ns1 and ns2 records to continue working with the old domain name but also for new customers to use the new ns1 and ns2 domain name. I hope tht makes sense?

No Problem, as you already set name server for old domain. ns1.oldns.com [youroldIP1] ns2.oldns.com [youroldip2] so now just make another name server with the new domain name like ns1/ns2.newns.com with your IPs. and in WHM in setting nameserver use your new domain. Also don't forget to check a records for ns1/ns2.oldns.com and ns1/ns2.newns.com. Both should be resolve to your server's IP.

Moving your WHMCS should not alter any nameserver settings as they are setup separately. All you have to do is sertup the new nameservers and start to use them if I am understanding you correctly? You would need to keep the old domain name in operation for the old nameservers to function.
