Posted by tihhc, 02-25-2014, 05:35 AM
Recently, i have a lot of problem with my clients about many wrong password login attempts that cause the firewall block their IP. Is there any better to provide better email solution? I am a reseller.

Are you a reseller/managed vps user, and asked support about this or isit off your own dedicated? If your in WHM you can change / add IP's to the whitelight.

If they are being blocked due to invalid login attempts, I doubt if the reseller host provider will modify the firewall rules on the server. It won't be possible to modify anything in firewall being a reseller. If your client has a static IP, you can request your hosting provider to white list the IP address OR get your own VPS on which you can manage your own firewall rules.

My host provider doesn't allow this. The VPS prices very high for me including cPanel, R1Soft, etc..

You need to educate your client to make sure he is using the correct password. Simple as that.

In that case you need to make sure that your clients do not use invalid login credentials. Help them in understanding the best practice to access emails with correct details.

Agreed, the problem here is with the client not the OP or the parent host. Most servers would require multiple login failures before a block occurred, why does this client repeatedly login incorrectly?

By the same token, if you have a client that access there email via an email client and uses an invalid email account [password] too many times, they too will be listed in the Firewall for too many failed email account access attempts! This is somewhat common also.

One way to unlock a client's ip through your router locally, switches off and turns back On and have a new ip (works with dynamic IP) Another way is to use local proxy or online. Note: You could edit the part of the user's login and and display a warning ip blocking. if the user enters erroneous data.

Usually happens when client tries to login with incorrect login credentials on one of their devices such as mobile or tablet. They update home/business PC/Laptop but forget to update other devices.

You can also let them know that if they do it X amount of times and its still incorrect that they should have it reset instead of gettting blocked. It will save you and them time.

The best solution is to educate the clients to use the right password as you are a reseller. If someone is frequently blocked, get the firewall log from your hosting provider by providing them his IP. The reason (with email client info) can be found there.
