Eleven2...Hell In A Handbasket. Is There No Good Reseller Host?

Posted by HowardB, 02-21-2014, 09:35 PM
I've been with Dr2.net, which became JR Hosting, which became SharkSpace, which became Eleven2. Like all hosts, there were the occasional issues, but they were always promptly fixed. This last 6 weeks, however, have been a nightmare with Eleven2. Mail down, Mail slow. cPanel access down. The worst part is, although they are very good at apologizing, they are not very good at fixing the problems. Email was down today, yet again, and I was informed by my best two clients that they were pulling up stakes and moving on...and expecting a refund for their unused time. I'm tired of making excuses, tired of angry clients, and tired of "our senior techs are looking into this." I'm not looking for the cheapest. I'm looking for reliable and competent. Eleven2 used to be both, in spades, but if the last several months are any indication they are on the road to hell. Any suggestions?

How many customers are you looking to host?

How much space and bandwidth do you require?

What is your budget for this project?

Well the problem is that non of those companies are known (at least from my end) for being awesomely stable. However there are companies that really do the reselling hosting really good. To name some of the best: HostDime (with chat)- Pure Apache and CentOS BigScoots (with chat) - Cloud Linux + Litespeed StableHost - Cloud Linux + Litespeed HawkHost - Cloud Linux + Litespeed MDDHosting - Cloud Linux + Litespeed I guarantee the above companies are super TOP NOTCH by personal experience.

That isn't good, seems like there is quite a lot of attention on them recently. Hopefully your next host will provide a better service. Do you have any location preferences or specific feature needed?

Just ask to be moved to a more stable server, I'm sure they can accommodate your request or simply find a new provider if their service and support has gone downhill from what you're used to. Are you sure you weren't having issues with IP addresses being blocked and denied access to particular services on their servers? Login failures etc make it easy for reseller clients to get locked out of servers.

I disagree with this, a paying client shouldn't have to ask to be placed on stable server, it's the providers responsibility to monitor and maintain their equipment and ensure uptime and optimal performance, that onus shouldn't be placed on the client.

Couldn't agree more with this. It is akin to exploiting unknowing clients of what they truly deserve, even if they never noticed any performance issues.

imo you tried to endure too much. for a critical project like yours (i assume, since it seems like you have many clients under your reseller account), 6 weeks is too much time to try and get things sorted out with a host. i would've moved asap if it were me. i recommend stablehost and mddhosting. i have a reseller account with stablehost and a shared + semi-dedicated with mddhosting and both of them have been awesome in all aspects.

Cody I completely agree with what you've said, this is an issue that I don't see being brought up here often enough and it really bugs me, most clients don't know what's great and what's bad in terms of performance, support and so on, it's a real shame that some providers count on a lack of consumer education to cash in.

My needs are modest. I am currently on the basic reseller plan, 100/1000 but even that is far more than I really need, and a dedicated IP is a must. I host about 25 accounts, mostly for friends and not-for-profits who I charge little or nothing. These care not a whit if things go awry for a day or two. I have 3 mission critical accounts whose businesses depend on fully functional email 24/7. One of these doesn't even have a web presence other than a landing page. The two that I lost yesterday paid all the hosting fees for everyone else. The third expressed displeasure and gave me until Monday to get things sorted out. With Eleven2, there are no updates on the issues, no explanations, nothing but a plethora of hollow "it'll be fixed soon" promises. I know that everyone has problems, but it is how you handle and resolve the problems that make you special. Eleven2 used to be so, but sadly no longer seems to be. I've been with them for years, and would like to stay, but at present this is intolerable. Last edited by HowardB; 02-22-2014 at 08:33 AM.

I have been using both Hawkhost and Dathorn and both work well for me. Dathorn is more expensive but is higher performance. Good support in both cases.

Sorry to hear that you've been having issues. Could you please provide me with one of your Ticket IDs? I don't remember ever hearing from you directly prior to this post, but I do want to make sure your issues get looked into and we find a better solution for you. Thanks!

Nick H. PM sent.

HowardB, there are definitely solid options out there. The important thing is to look at the price and what is being offered, more often than not the "best deals" arn't from the "best providers". It's unfortunate you didn't post here earlier, from the looks of it, @Nick H is one of the hardest working CR reps on WHT.

Contacting me directly gets an even faster result than posting here as well We're not a perfect company by any means, so any time a problem is brought to my attention, I want to do everything I can to make it right. I'm already in contact with HowardB via our helpdesk and going to work out a solution for him.

I'm still waiting for your response by mail. I sent it 19/02 and I didn't get any reply yet.

I must say that after Nick H. got involved mountains were moved. I could not, at this point, be more pleased. Hopefully the issues will not reoccur. If you have any issues at Eleven2, do yourself a favor and reach out to Nick H.

that's great news. hopefully you can get your ex-clients back as well.

Good to see that the issues have been resolved. Nick H. seems to do a great job isolating and correcting the issues affecting specific clients, hopeful E2 pays him well.

Unfortunately all hosts have issues some more then others, its how they deal with it which is the most important thing. Hopefully everything is sorted out for you, good job Nick.
