The Good, the Bad and the Ugly!

Posted by Tiryaq, 12-05-2013, 03:35 PM
Hello It was so frustrating to get my account funded at eNom which is part of a Hostgator reseller plan , they gave me a headache for declining my Credit Card for no reason, then after opening a ticket with their support team they just didn't give a crap about it, and asked me to contact my bank and blah blah blah , so i decided to go for resellerclub , and I literally ,Created ,funded , purchased domains in less than 60 seconds!!! So my question is that I would like to know if I can use my domain reseller from resellerclub with my Hostgator reseller ? If not i will ask for a refund from Hostgator as well and move to a company that deals with ResellerClub!!

Hey, You SHOULD be able to use the resellerclub domain registry service and still host your websites with HostGator. At least this is how its been with every company I've ever worked for including my current primary employer. ResellerClub should have an API system which you use to integrate ResellerClub and your billing system of choice (WHMCS, ClientExec etc.). There should be zero tie in with HostGator. With that said, the only group of people who can properly confirm if everything will work is your web host. I'd check in with them.

Thank you Josh , Hostgator Live Chat is not reachable at this moment , that's why i had to ask the question here , yes there is an API key and I have already activated Resellerclub under Domain Registrars in the WHMCS settings and configured it

Ou should defenatly be able to use the reseller club domain seller and your host gator reseller. May I ask how long have you been with host gator and what made you sign up with them.

Thank you LuxuryServers , I've been with HG for a week now , and I guess the main reason that made me sign up with them is reading a lot of positive reviews about their support ( which was Less than average this week with annoying delays , maybe because of Holidays , NO? but once they get their hand on your problem they fix it right away, and thats something i really like about them ), also I had to make a quick choice between a lot of offers everywhere , because if i continued reading reviews I would never make a step lol

ResellerClub has a solid offering and integrates easily with WHMcs (I believe HG offers a free WHMcs license with reseller accounts). Resell.biz might be worth a look as well, they offer a limited number of TLDs but are very price competitive.

Hostgator Reseller plans comes up with free billing manager. Pick WHMCS (is the best in my opinion) and configure API in order to automate the domain order through your WHMCS billing area. If you have difficulties on dealing with API I am sure that ResellerClub will be more than happy to assist you.

You can use ResellerClub domin reseller account with any reseller hosting. Again, you can use ResellerClub domain reseller account with any hosting provider. ResellerClub is not limited to any hosting provider. Its always good to have domains and hosting at separate providers. Last edited by YagHost-Ravi; 12-06-2013 at 09:51 AM.

While most advice in this thread is spot on, I couldn't let this one slip. How is it always good to have domain and hosting in separate places? I'd say its completely the opposite - there is a good reason that most customers prefer it - you only deal with one company for any question/issue that might occur. And the domains are not really tied with the hosting, you might have a crappy hosting, but still a good place to keep your domains. And even if you don't like the hosting, that won't reflect on the domains. Generally, if you know that a company provides both good domain and hosting deals, this is the one you should choose. Instead of dealing with many accounts, passwords and at times not even remembering where you had what hosted, you'll know exactly where to go for questions and help.

If hosting provider company is not co-operating / down, you can move to a different hosting provider. Hosting companies are generally not ICANN accredited. They use domain reseller account from any ICANN accredited registrar like (ResellerClub / Enom / Resell.biz etc). So, why not get a direct account from a ICANN accredited company and save few bucks. If both hosting and domain are at one place, and in case of any disaster, you will loose both. So, I will prefer to keep at separate places to be on safe side. Its not hard to maintain two accounts.

Well ...no! those two are absolutely different services and do not interfere with each other. Even if a customer website is hacked or his account is suspended, he still has access to the domain management area. The domain is registered under the names of the client and remains their property no matter what. Now of course there are personal preferences. You might want to deal with 2 companies, but there are users that have 50 domains with 5 different companies and host 10 websites in 4 different hosting companies, just because they like to try different services. And not only they confuse usernames/passwords all the time, but should they want to move they have to remember what is where and end up losing a domain or website because of that. In the general case I still believe that the best option is hosting and domain under one roof

what if hosting company runs away!!what if your hosting company denies giving you Auth code. What if you are unable to login in client area to change nameserver. Its a simple rule, if your website is down and your hosting provider is not replying / co-operating, you can simply move to a different provider if you have: 1) Access to domain to change nameserver. 2) Backup This is completely my personal opinion. But other's opinion can be different. And I also respect your opinion as having one account for all makes work easy

Absolutely, its a matter of personal preference. But your company denying to give you the Authorization Code?!? That is against all policies as you are listed as owner of the domain and you MUST be provided with a domain management area to change nameservers, unlock domain, get the EPP code. Everything below that is just bad business...

Get your domain from an icann registrar. The hosting can be gotten elsewhere.
