Need: Geographic Loadbalancing

Posted by happyuser, 02-12-2008, 08:05 AM
I have 10 servers worldwide. I need a hosted DNS loadbalancing service, to whom I could provie all the IP addresses of my servers and everytime a visitor requests an file, the DNS should check which server is most close to the client and deliver from there. Look forward to hear good managed solutions!

DNS doesn't have the smarts for that. You need a load balancer(software or hardware) that will accommodate you. Regards,

What you need is a CDN service (Content Delivery Network). There are a few providers offering this (the biggest I think is Akamai).

Can somebody provide me something like that?

Aren't you already using Akamai?

One of our larger colocation customers uses limelight for content delivery. They were able to save money, but their website's performance (at least from Tampa) really suffered.

We would like to make our own CDN (starting with 10 servers)

Have you looked at envoy by coyotepoint systems?

In that case, I'd recommend to contact Ray at colo4jax.com. He just mentioned something like what you're talking about in the works over there for a good price.
