RLSHosting 2.5 month review

Posted by iKrazie, 05-09-2013, 12:05 AM
Here is my review on RLSHosting.com I signed up with rlshosting fairly quick because I was in a jam and I had quite a few domains that I didn't want to get deindexed or lose PR/position in google back in the end of February. (hated justhost, and they didn't offer catch-all email). I spoke to "M Bacon" who seemed to be friendly on this forum, and had a pretty decent deal going at the time. I had very few problems up until May 1st. I have a private blog, not indexed, only I have the link, etc. I was on another site I have a membership to and I used the "Press This" button so I could read it on my iPhone later on. I apparently forgot to set permissions to me only, and snipped an image. The owner of the site I have a membership to sent a DMCA complaint to "M Bacon". While I was actually ON my blog, and trying to edit the stuff (before I even knew about the complaint), "M Bacon" decided to go into the server and delete my ENTIRE /blog/ folder. He deleted months of posts, and deleted custom themes that I hadn't backed up that were edited in wordpress. I opened up a ticket and instantly got a smartass remark from him as I've seen from countless others after googling rlshosting. I wish I had done my due diligence at this point. Now what happened with the content was my fault, I take blame for that. I had no intention of "stealing/reproducing" and have spoke to the owner of the membership site, who said "no problem". HOWEVER, what "M Bacon" did after that is unacceptable. Not only did I receive smartass replies from him, but after I quoted his site where it says After that I have been ignored. Actually, not only have I been ignored, but he removed access to the "Client area" and to all tickets. When I logged in the original ticket (you can just click the link, do not need to log in) was there and it was set up like this My Name | Client After I replied after not hearing back after 63 hours I replied again and at that point it said My Name | myemail@address.com I asked for a restore to 4/30/2013. I have been ignored ever since then. I had sent one Email every 24 hours from 5/1 until 5/7 at which point I decided to do every 12 hours until I received a reply. He will not answer Emails, closed the ticket and deleted it so I can no longer reply to it. When I attempt to request a password reset I get the following . The hosting is stable, but the owner is horrible at running a business. My suggestion is to stay far away from this place.

Sorry for your bad experience. I do agree with you, deleting the whole folder and deleting your account from the Client Area is pretty harsh, but they seem to take DMCA very seriously. Next time, I suggest reading reviews about the hosting company before buying it. Research is the #1 thing you can do to save your money and time

What is the domain you hosted with them before? Very sad. He should just suspend it instead of deleting the content. But let's give him a chance to explain his story too.

He deleted the /blog/ folder, then deleted the domain from the acct or something like that. It went straight to a default page. He told me: I responded to him Like I said to him, there were multiple ways to resolve this, but he deleted the entire folder, then removed the domain. After that told me I could re-add it. (all other content was still there just the domain resolved to a default cpanel page). Also I would love for him to reply here, since he will not reply via Email and blocked me from submitting tickets. This seems like the only way to even get a reply.

Sorry to hear of your experience with this host. It is very unfortunate when things are removed from your site without your permission or without any prior notification or warning. I strongly recommend going forward you contact your Webhost before hosting with them and see their response time, level of service and have a through read of the terms if service. There are alot of webhosting companies out there and it is a matter of finding one that suits you. I hope the Webhost comes on to respond and is able to resolve your issues. Good luck with it all!

It is very important to keep backup of website on your local computer. Whenever you make change, create a new backup and download to local computer. If you have backup, you could restore data or move to new host quickly.

We really didn't want to respond to it because you threatened legal action and pointed us to a link on lawyers.com over our firewall. We aren't obligated to even provide a backup in any case. The datacenter told us to remove the content within 24 hours or our account would be removed from the datacenter and our servers would be shut off. We didn't want to wake up finding out that our servers were shut off. They didn't give us further information after we told them about the content removal. In most cases, the client doesn't respond to dmca or phishing. Phishing is worst because they only give us 4 hours to deal with the issue. We would like to offer our deepest apologizes in this incident and this incident is very rare thankfully. We would like to offer you a lifetime free account. We won't remove your data unless we contact you and the backup server is now fixed. As for the backup, unfortunately we don't have it. We took a week just to fix the backup server with cpremote and upgrade it to a 3 terabyte drive because we ran out of space on the backup server. It was very troublesome just like this event was to you.
