VPS / Cloud Reseller

Posted by mencargo, 05-09-2013, 04:13 PM
Hello, after a not-so-good experience with a shared reseller, I'm thinking about moving into VPS or Cloud server, but I need it managed, don't have the time to maintain it, and with awesome specs. Looking for a rock solid platform, as I'm used to near 100% availability, NginX front end with lightning speed, and a support team that does not only responds but actually cares for their customers. Considering Eleven2, Site5, Godaddy... Any suggestions?

A support department that actually cares is going to be a pretty difficult find, and it's probably NOT something you're going to get with a large company - where you deal with different people each time you call. In my experience, "caring" usually comes as a result of taking the time to build a relationship with the folks you're working with. When you talk to them a lot on the phone, hang out with them at conferences, etc. I'd recommend starting with a company that offers managed VPS accounts, then do your google homework and see which ones have positive feedback (from lots of places) on their customer support. Once there, aim for the mid-size host. One that's small enough to build a relationship with but not so small that they can't take care of you consistently. Hope this helps!

Why not put knownhost in your research they seem pretty good

When a company says managed or even fully managed their could be lot of variations so its important to find what exactly that you are getting under the managed plan as different providers have different meanings for the term "managed".

Agreed with the feedback, I mean care for customers in the sense of reading the whole support ticket, take the time to answer properly, give options, give detailed info. And thanks for the suggestion about KnownHost, seems very good, although a little expensive, and would need some extras, like WHM/cPanel, but I guess that coming from shared reseller, a good VPS would be in fact a big difference. More suggestions?
