It's getting costly with HawkHost planning to shift

Posted by aritrim, 04-29-2013, 10:55 PM
After HostGator I am planning to shift from Hawkhost. I have one of their early reseller plans and paying 82 USD anually for 1.5GB space for three years now. Yesterday I contacted them for a quote on space increase and they replied me back: We can double your disk space to 3GB for an additional $5/mo, billed on the same term as your hosting plan. So that would be 142 USD a year for 3GB reseller hosting, which is expensive for me. Yes given their uptime and support it is probably fine but when I compare their existing bronze plan it is 192 USD for 15 GB. Yet they want 142 USD from me for 3GB. Weird. Not a problem though. I will take my toys and move out. I already shifted from HostGator to Crocweb. Can anyone receommend a good litespeed host offering around 10GB space for 120 USD annual? Need stable uptime and email support. Thanks.

Providing reliable, fast and stable hosting services prices money. There are trade offs when you start shopping around for hosting services based on price. You will find the servers are usually slower since the low cost hosting provider needs to put more websites on a single server to make money. The support is normally slower or not knowledgeable since it is out sourced or done by one person. I would say stick with Hawkhost and upgrade to the Bronze package with 15GB. Its $50 per year difference. Or another $4.17 per month over what you are paying now.

I absolutely understand your point. One of the reasons I have been paying 106 USD to Medialayer for 500 mb space for almost five years now. When I recently shifted to Crocweb, I checked reviews etc and also posted a thread. I was paying 280 USD to HostGator for 5GB of space. Since 2006. My reseller account shows 2 Xeon processors on HostGator. My WHM is still active. I see 16 Xeon processors on Crocweb. While I do not know the rest of it, I feel 16 processors are better than 2. Since the shift has been only a few days, it will be too early to comment on speed. BUT I can safely say, my domains shifted to Crocweb are running slightly faster than on HG. The money to quality thing works with some hosts, not all. Everything has got a standard. There will be some hosts above that standard, some below. I need someone standard. Not exceptional. Not bad either.

Is price the only factor for you to move? Well, quality services come at a price, but if it's getting too expensive for you. You can take a look at the offers section.

If 15 GB prices, $192 annually, how much should 1.5 should cost? You run a hosting company, do the maths. Albeit not, 19.2 USD but some more. Lets say double. That would be 38.4 USD. I am paying 82 USD for the same and have paid for many years. So no, the cost factor is not the reason I am moving. I want to move away because there is an inconsistency between what I am paying and what the host is offering with their recent plans. I am paying 82 USD a year for 1.5 GB of space. The host offers 15 GB of space for 192 USD. So even if I stick to my current plan I believe I am paying way over.

Have you asked them about it? They might move you to the new pricing plans if you ask them. A good webhost is very difficult to come by these days. You are hosted with one of the best in the industry.

Seeing as you've been with them for a while, you should just ask them if they can give you a better deal than that. They would most likely work out a better deal for you, rather than lose your business altogether.

I've been happy with Geek Storage. Their entry level plan has 20gb of storage [1], they also have 30 percent off for life at present. On a yearly plan that's close to $160, so a bit out of your budget, but worth a look IMHO. 1. http://www.geekstorage.com/reseller-hosting.html

I initiated a ticket. Let me see what they come up with. I am asking for a fair deal. That is all.

aritrim you might want to ask them about the 30% discount offer they have running on reseller accounts, that would bring the yearly payment for the current 15GB package to around $134/yr. Not sure if they allow the promo for existing customers, but they might make an exception for you since you're moving to a more expensive package.

Actually I do not need 15GB. I host my own domains only. I do not resell any space. No client billing etc. Around 5 GB is enough for me. I am not sure if they will offer me a price for 5GB that tallies with their 15GB price. I am being already offered 142 USD a year for 3 GB.

Go check out Dathorn.com. It will be a little bit more, but they are awesome. Litespeed SSD drives 10GB of space for 13.50/mon

After performing a quick search on these forums, there are a few providers offering Litespeed Reseller Hosting at a considerably lower cost than what you're paying. I've got no experience with these customers however one of the searches showed SmileServe who may have been around for a little while. Only $5/month for 30GB Disk Space.

I was going to ask the question whether you actually needed the extra storage space or not, but it seems you just want the extra 2GB which they said you could have for $5/month extra. You could signup for the 15GB and pay $192/year but then you'd just be paying extra for unused space. I'm sure you can work something out with your current provider. It'd be their loss otherwise.

I recommend you ask them, say I'm thinking about leaving, what is the best price you can offer me. Just like someone would do for a Mobile phone network, if you say you are going to leave, the give you the best package / price. Haggle.

hi, If you are not reselling, why doing for reseller plan ? shared hosting with Addon domain would be fine for you. and I thing at $120 hard to find good reseller.

Posted by geekboy, 05-02-2013, 09:08 AM
Not it's not hard. Crocweb and Stablehost are 2 examples of good providers with decent accounts for under $120 a year. Sure there will be limitations with accounts or bandwidth or space, however you have the choice.

I've replied to your ticket this morning with pricing that you should find favorable while still upgrading your entire account to our current reseller plans. The pricing 'inconsistency' (I use this term loosely) stemmed from you only wanting a disk space upgrade and not wanting to upgrade your entire account. You're still on our legacy plans that we removed about two years ago now. At that time we didn't force any customers to upgrade/change plans so what you're seeing is the result of that. As a lot of the folks in this thread have alluded to, we are more than willing to work with you on this given how long you've been a customer

That's customer service. Glad to see that it's not obsolete! I love companies/hosts that go out of their way to help their clients. There are so many that don't.

Posted by servcrate, 05-03-2013, 03:56 AM
Exactly! Why are you looking at a reseller account when your needs are for a fat shared hosting account! I guess hawkhost can consult you better on this. Like if you really need a reseller account or just shared host.

Posted by Atlanical-Mike, 05-03-2013, 09:12 AM
Thank you Brian for solving this Yep I agree 80% of providers don't help the customers but force them away because they know other customers will replace them.

Posted by hD-Scott, 05-03-2013, 10:14 AM
It's MUCH easier to keep the customers you have than to try to get new ones. The cost is MUCH cheaper to retain. The cost of acquiring new clients can be extremely costly.

Posted by LushHost, 05-03-2013, 05:47 PM
Hi, For as long as you've been a client of theirs they should be more than willing to work out something your good with.

Though I was subscribed to this thread yet I did not get any notifications of new replies made. My OCD prevents me from going for an addon domain plan. Brian, I came here to post how you solved the problem and did not allow me to leave. I would like to mention Brian gave me a fantastic offer and I will be unpacking my suitcases on HawkHost again. Once again, my OCD prevents me from signing up with a shared hosting account. I like to have a reseller account and I like the way they are setup with individual cpanels for domains etc. It is just a personal choice, nothing else. They did. They came up with a fantastic offer and I am staying with them. This is to let all of you know, Brian, Hawkhost gave me a very good offer and solved my problem. Very happy and feeling good. HawkHost Rocks! Last edited by aritrim; 05-07-2013 at 07:53 AM.

About Reseller vs. shared account. You are paying for that WHM license, and for the server overhead of account separation. HawkHost is CloudLinux so theoretically each cPanel acct you set up under your reseller account is isolated in terms of performance and security. But I guess you knew that.

Posted by aritrim, 05-07-2013, 10:28 AM
Defintely. All I know is, if there is a script injection on a shared account, all the add on domains may be compromised. I would rather pay some extra for the security. If I had only one domain to host, I would use a good shared hosting. Which I do.

Posted by hD-Scott, 05-07-2013, 12:33 PM
DirectAdmin does this without a reseller account. "Add-on" domains are isolated and not created as subdomains like in cPanel and each have it's own DA panel.

Posted by aritrim, 05-07-2013, 01:16 PM
Yes. One of the reasons I use Medialayer's shared hosting. Each domains have their own DA panel.

Posted by hD-Scott, 05-07-2013, 01:52 PM
We've switched from cPanel many years ago and haven't looked back at all. DA is a GREAT panel.
