Namecheap Reseller hosting

Posted by Stone Rain, 02-02-2013, 06:52 PM
What are anyone's experiences with namecheap's reseller hosting packages? I recently started out using them, and frankly it's quite terrible; I have 2 sites hosted on the same nameserver, yet one is steady, while the other (who is actually a customer!) is down 80% of the time. And the staff continuously insists that it's that the DNS hasn't propagated, even though HTTP/FTP/SMTP work whenever the site is up! And it's been a week now, way long enough for the DNS to propagate, even if I hadn't already known it was completed. You guys' experience with Namecheap?

Check your domain against intodns.com ... what's it say. It may not be the hosting. Do you have GLUE records or all A records?

Have you tried flushing your DNS cache?

Here's the reported issues from intodns.com: FAIL: The following nameservers are listed at your nameservers as nameservers for your domain, but are not listed at the parent nameservers (see RFC2181 5.4.1). You need to make sure that these nameservers are working. If they are not working ok, you may have problems! dns1.namecheaphosting.com dns2.namecheaphosting.com ERROR: One or more of the nameservers listed at the parent servers are not listed as NS records at your nameservers. The problem NS records are: rs14.registrar-servers.com rs114.registrar-servers.com This is listed as an ERROR because there are some cases where nasty problems can occur (if the TTLs vary from the NS records at the root servers and the NS records point to your own domain, for example). I'm not particular how these two issues arose, seeing as another site I am using is on the same nameservers, and doesn't have a problem. How can I fix this?

Simple rule governs here, even with NameCheap (my registrar, too). More often that not, only use a domain registrar for its primary focus and purpose: domains.

If everyone thought that way, NameCheap most likely wouldn't be as great as they are now. Plus, NameCheap has some really competitive SSL pricing.

Very true, you can get PositiveSSL Certs on the site for $1.99 if you buy a domain/product from them. Really can't find a better deal than that for a cert.

That's a DNS error for sure. Not your host. I have to know more to help. DNS is complex, and can be set up several ways.

I guess perhaps I was thinking stay close to what the registrars seem to be better at. Certs, privacy guards, dns services, whois and contents tools, and other more domain-related products seem to do quite well at many registrars, so yes that stuff kind of falls under the umbrella of what I was thinking... perhaps I came off a little too specific!

You should set your NS on Domain and host, check both again and ping them. I pinged your NS and here the resula: So your host setup might be right, Check your childname server again, where you connected NS to server IP

Yep, there is a DNS mismatch causing this. Modify your nameservers through your control panel or speak to a live support person who will be happy to do this for you. Matt

Trip, We definitely appreciate your domain business. But please be open-minded about our hosting services and don't let other registrar's track records make up your mind about us. We've been doing a hosting a long time now and are very good at it. Matt

StoneRain, I'm told one of my team saw this thread and has fixed the DNS mismatch for you. I see a ticket is open waiting for your confirmation on this. Matt

I just got an email in my personal inbox from a Namecheap employee illustrating that they had solved the issue after observing this thread, and since then I have had no more downtime. So it seems I misjudged the company. Thanks everyone!
