UBERHOST anyone?

Posted by chrisz, 12-07-2012, 01:41 PM
I haven't been able to dig up any recent posts on UBERHOST, other than an announcement of their purchase, and would like to find out what others think of them. I will, of course, leave the door open to suggestions for other hosts. I'm leaving another hosting company after having been with them for 8 years and looking for something like the following in the area of $20/month: DirectAdmin SSH/Shell Access 25GB Disk 100GB Transfer Thank you, Chris

I am not sure about UBERHOST reviews, but I recommend you to have a look in to Reseller Hosting Offers section. You will find many reliable reseller hosting providers there upon your budget and requirements. You can pick up one and start searching for their reviews.

I've been doing that as well. It seems that most offer cPanel and I absolutely HATE cPanel. I found a few that fit the bill, but SSH & Shell access are hard to come by. UBERHOST seems to be the only provider that suits my needs, which is fine but I want to be sure they're reliable. Thanks for the reply! Chris

Thanks, Jonathan! I guess the only question I have is regarding SSH & shell access. Am I correct that it IS offered? Thank you, Chris

Unfortunately we won't be offering shell on shared packages any longer.

I was one click away from ordering, too. Could you call me? I'll PM you my phone number. Thanks, Chris

It won't allow me to PM for some reason. Oh well. LOL

You have not enough posts to PM. All you can probably get from a host is jailed SSH, otherwise you need a VPS. Just wondering why you would want to switch hosts after 8 years, though?

The host I'm with isn't what it used to be on several levels.

As I said, if you can increase your budget a little look out for a VPS, DA is cheaper than cPanel and the difference in price might be very well offset by the difference in service/support. Good luck.

I'm definitely considering all options at this point.

Jonathan spent some time with me on AIM today answering questions and offering alternative solutions. I ended up signing up for a reseller package through UBERHOST and will post a review some time down the road. I needed shell access for some of the shell scripts I run, but will rework them to run on my server at home and sync files with the server instead. Thank you, all, for your input. Chris

Is interesting that you quit your actual company after 8 years of partnership...

I wish you the best of luck with UberHost!

Thank you, Jon! I'm impressed so far, but it's only been a day and only time will tell. I've submitted three support tickets and all but one were responded to in less than 30 minutes. The ticket that wasn't was a request to upgrade my package and I set the priority to "Low." I uploaded a 100MB file to both my old host and Uberhost. The upload speed to my old host hovered around 40K/s while it remained consistently above 160K/s to Uberhost. I then downloaded the file from each host. Downloading from my old host had speeds right around 169K/s while Uberhost was around 1.7M/s. I have business class service (15x2) with Time Warner at home so 1.7M/s is really about all I could expect here. @clauuudiu It really is sad to leave the other host after all these years but I've suspected the need would arise for quite some time. I'm a very understanding and forgiving person when problems arise, particularly when I'm paying for a shared hosting and not a dedicated server, but the problems seem to have become more frequent and other red flags popping up all the time. I wouldn't be so concerned if it was just a few personal sites I had on the account, but I have started hosting business sites for family and friends and so it's time to move on. I will, at some point (probably in the next year), move to a managed VPS or dedicated server and really do it right. Chris

I wish you good luck. When you will get a VPS or Dedicated, the provider will be a hard choice again

Thank you! I'm sure it will be, although I did quite a bit of shopping in that arena as well. I'm actually leaning towards colocation when the time comes. I did it once before to host sites for myself and some family and friends. It will be for revenue the next time I do it.

No Idea about UBERHOST. I would like to suggest to use Reseller Hosting with your current Budget which covers your SSL/SSH, Billing, Domain Resellers.....many features. Now the time of Holiday Deals & Offers. For more details, See Reseller Offers.

Uberhost has always been great, even through the takeover by Knownhost. But this morning I'm singing a different tune, with site problems and a trouble ticket that's over 2 hours old, high priority , with no answers yet.
