Nobarrier on Ext4
Posted by NameSniper, 06-18-2015, 08:28 AM | Hi,
Does anyone know whether if its safe from the point of data integrity to set barrier=0 on Ext4?
This certain server isnt running RAID, but hard reboots might happen.

PS : Make proper updating backups and set it if you still wish :-D

My server is based on CentOS 6.x, if it matters.
Does anyone have first hand experience with setting barrier to 0 on such a setup?
I am still trying to understand the risks because as far as I have read, on CentOS 5.x barrier=0 was a default.

Check what the below link has to say on this:
access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Storage_Administration_Guide/writebarrieronoff.html
------------------ ------------------ ------------------
The use of nobarrier is no longer recommended in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 as the negative performance impact of write barriers is negligible (approximately 3%). The benefits of write barriers typically outweigh the performance benefits of disabling them.
