Reselling Information and Suggestions

Posted by martin11ph, 02-06-2012, 02:57 AM
Hi, good day. First of all, I would like to know what getting a reseller account entails? I am a web programmer and I handle getting the host for my client and do the programming. What I do at the moment is register them on a host that I have an account on and list them as a referral. I want to know if I could make more money by using a reseller account instead. Hope someone can give some advice. Thanks.

You can use a reseller account to sell/create a cPanel account for each of your clients. Start with a small reseller plan and update when needed.

A reseller Account is an account that has rights to resell. This means you have your own control panel (WHM) in cPanel where you can control all of the domains you want to host. It depends where you get the reseller from in relation to how many domains they can allocate you. costs vary of how much space and CPU your website is going to use. Which sort of location are you looking at? - Ashton

As others mentioned, with a reseller account you could create an account for each client thus providing them hosting yourself. How much diskspace/bandwidth would you require? Also, what is your budget?

Reseller Hosting is Much Better If you a web developer, i will never suggest you to give your customers to a hosting provider. Buy a reseller package, design a customer,s site and host that customer on your web site. You are a Developer, you know better, what your customers exactly need. Create packages of your customers needs and host on your own hosting. That can be a SIDE BUSINESS All Control in your Hand!!!!

Get a reseller account with a quality company and you'll add another revenue stream to your business.

A reseller hosting account is much less involved than a VPS & Dedicated server. It takes a lot of the headache out offering web hosting as essentially you're outsourcing the low level details to the provider. Things such as managing hardware, security updates etc. will all be the responsibility of the web host. It'll give you more opportunity to manage the selling side. However, some work is involved. For example you need to ensure any scripts you use are properly patched & up to date. You'll also need to make sure your customers are within the terms of service of your provider. The good things about the traditional reseller hosting service is that the customers you obtain, are yours. You are free to move them to any provider and the amount you pay for your account is a fixed monthly amount. So judging your prices shouldn't be difficult. You would want to research each provider carefully. Different providers offer different services. Some may bundle in things like WHMCS which can be used to manage the billing side of your customers. Some may offer end user support where they will answer your clients questions on your behalf when you're not around under your brand name. Because keep in mind, if your clients have technical issues, they would want prompt support. But when starting out, such a service may not be necessary because your client volume may be low resulting in minimal support required. Remember that your reputation depends on the reputation of your provider. If they provide a bad service and are always having issues, you will suffer as a result. So taking your time to find a provider that is competent and knows what they're doing.

When you are looking for a quality company, do not forget to check their reviews here specially the technical support aspect.

A reseller account allows you to set up a separate control panel for each of your clients. Each client will have their own unique login details for their account.

How much diskspace/bandwidth you need? What is your budget?

Best reply was from IH-Rameen Your current setup gives you some money,(with the referral system),and yes,you will make more money by using a reseller account. You will have a better control of your clients, and the ability to grow your business. The downside is that there is a lot more responsibility involved in doing this. Currently you don't have to justify the money you earn, and you don't have any responsibilities from the referral system. client pays the other company, not you,and the other company is responsible. With a reseller account you are entering the front line. Clients know you,not the company that sells you the reseller account. Good luck

Thank you to all who replied. I understand that having a reseller account places me in between the client and the hosting provider. However, I still do not fully understand the payment proceedings. Hope someone can enlighten me with this as well. To have a more concrete example, please allow me to use the Stablehost reseller rate. I currently have shared hosting there but this does not necessarily mean I will use their reseller hosting. So it says their basic is $9.95 per month for 5GB disk space, 100GB bandwidth and 10 clients, etc. So from my understanding, I pay this $9.95 per month. What then? If I have a client, I choose how much to charge him? The $9.95 covers up to 10 clients, is that right? Sorry, its really not that clear to me.

Yes, that certain reseller account will allow you to create 10 cpanel accounts. You then decide what to charge your customers, eg. 9.95 per month, and you make 89.55 in profit.

Rates are up to you, So suppose you are with Stablehost You was giving your customers on affiliate to Stablehost What were the packages? and the Rates? You Can create packages of your customers needs and set rates what they can easily afford. 2$/Month X 10 Customers = 20$/month You are paying 9.95$/Month so 10$ Profit/Month Straight away Use Paypal as payment gateway and if you want to accept credit cards too Use 2CheckOut I hope everything is OK Now

Yes, it is becoming clear now. Thanks! Now the next part is looking for a good reseller host.

Which is the hardest part of all... What's your budget on this? Location?

Posted by martin11ph, 02-16-2012, 04:10 AM
Thank you also. Didn't see this earlier. Location does not matter to me so long as 99.9 or 100% uptime is guaranteed. $10-$20 per month starting since I only have one client waiting on the side at the moment.

So i will suggest you to start with a smaller budget. But flexible host. Choose Wisely Live Well

Thank you. Still browsing these forums and reading threads. I just found out that if I pay for a reseller account that has 5GB disk space and 10 clients allowed, for example, I am the one that has to divide the 5GB among the 10 clients. Is this true for all? I was under the impression that I would get 5GB for each client.

Here is an example of a reseller account: I receive unlimited bandwidth on this account and 200 gigs of storage. I can sell packages, for e.g. unlimited bandwidth and 10 gigs storage for web hosting. People can buy this package and receive access to their own cpanel. Its alot cheaper and easier than a dedicated server.

Ill just tell you some of the good things about a reseller account: You normally make alot of profit when selling packages, hardly any problems because if you had a dedicated server instead of vps you would have to manage it alot, therefore its better to grow from reseller as you learn. If your hosting company does ddos protection than the chances are you would also have ddos protection, so try getting a reliable reseller company.
