Mentor Needed

Posted by borzoid, 12-30-2011, 08:21 PM
Hi, I have a small hosting niche biz with very few sites. I haven't pursued growth because I have been waiting for a rewrite of my application. One of the issues is that my application was written for mysql4 but as you probably know a lot of apps like wordpress require mysql 5. So a move is in order. My host said to order another account and then support said after the account is approved they would merge the two accounts and mirror all of my sites and I could change them at will by changing dns servers in WHMCS Now the tech people are saying the billing people are the ones who are supposed to do that and the billing people have been "out of the office" for days. I'm frustrated and worried as I have clients waiting for this move and I feel like I'm in over my head. I am worried about messing up my clients sites, I am worried about billing and am worried about my whmcs and reseller club accounts getting screwed up. On top of that, for at least a couple months will need access to both mysql 4 and mysql 5. Is there anyone out there who can walk me through this process or through the process of moving everyone including my whmcs and resellerclub accounts to another host. In either case I've been treading water too long and need to get a move on. Thanks for any help I can get. Last edited by borzoid; 12-30-2011 at 08:27 PM.

If you are unable to manage your clients, you shouldn't be trying to collect a profit on it. Hire a competent professional server management company to do this for you, as if you are guessing your way through it or asking for free help and mess it, it will be your "clients" who suffer having placed their trust in you.

it's not that I can't manage my clients. It's that I can't get a response from my host to accomplish what they have been paid to do (i.e. merge the accounts and create a mirror of my sites). This is 'obviously' something I can't do myself. Before I go running off and trying to find a new host I thought I would ask those who may have been there before. I apologize if this appears incompetent to you and possibly this is the wrong place to ask for guidance. I have never moved my hosted sites. Can anyone please tell me if there is a checklist or guide that may minimize the chances of me missing something. Thank you

Would this be a cPanel to cPanel move?

Hi cd/home. Yes it would be. I am also using WHMCS.

Moving WHMCS any host can do but for resellerclub account what you want to move...

I and I'm sure others would be happy to help you moving your WHMCS account's however you will need help from resellerclub with getting "backups" of your account's with them to move them over to a normal standard reseller.

hi, sorry for the delay in responding. Been trying to work this out. Poor choice of words - I don't want to move my resellerclub account, I just want to keep using it and not lose it. sorry about that. Currently looking at about 30 sites. 3 will need mysql 5 and the rest, mysql 4 with the ability to move them to 5 as soon as they are upgraded. I am OK with running two servers but would prefer that they be under one account all attached to the same billing software (whmcs). So possibly cloud hosting. At the moment the sites were supposed to be mirrored to a second server but when I tried to access the first mirror site I encounted problems and lost it completely and have been unable to get support. As it is it took over a week to get the second account going for the Mirrors. Yes I know it's the holidays and I've tried to be patient, but still.... So I guess I'm starting to look for a new host too.

You are able to integration both of your server with MY SQL 5.0 & MY SQL 4.0 with WHMSC and manage account's and at the time of moving domain name on different server you can create child name server so with the help of those you just need to need to change A records which not take more then 2 - 4 hour downtime.

Thank you znetindia. Slogging along with the mirror copies right now but if things drag out too long I will see if someone can to this for me rather than continueing to pay for two accounts.
