Here's my review - same thing - ever since they acquired Sharkspace, server became slow with CPU spiking all over the place, most likely because they allow overselling to max out profit. I personally don't mind paying a bit more for a more stable server. They've offered me to move to a new server, but I think it's still going to be the same. If they oversell like mad caveman with the new server, nothing will improve, imho.

We are not overselling to the max as you are claiming here. In fact any servers from Sharkspace were never added additional customers. Those servers were just left as is, so any performance you got before from Sharkspace would be the same. Nothing has changed there. If you are having issues, please let us know we would love to correct them. We are in the process of upgrading all the Sharkspace servers with more memory as some of them only had 4GB of ram, this will 'fix' most issues with the Sharkspace servers, but that is definitely not the case with Eleven2. All Eleven2 servers you signup on now have minimum 32GB of ram, we use Cloudlinux and tons of other scripts to ensure things do not 'overload' as you are stating. Could you please send me your ticket ID and I would love to look into the issues you are having.

Ticket #396291, 283389, 511183, 644647 and a few chat sessions. The BLUE server has 8GB of RAM. However, I'd rather wait until you fix the real issue as the reliability has decreased ever since Sharkspace was taken over. I really hope the core issue can be fixed without having to move my accounts to another server. I really don't mind paying more as long as the server is stable. Thank you. In my experience there are regular periods where my site is inaccessible, at least once per week, if not more. The support staff tell me this is due to the actions of other users on the server.

Again, that will be resolved on any Sharkspace server once the memory is upgraded and Cloudlinux is installed. If you have any specific problems, please email me directly at rodney@eleven2.com and I will gladly take a look at things for you!

What is the timeline for addressing the memory issues.. I am afraid till that is down, folks will face some intermittent problems..

I have numerous support tickets open related to downtime. WHM's information page indicates CloudLinux is already installed.

If you can e-mail me your account info I will personally check into things for you.

In the past, Sharkspace never allowed overselling. Since Sharkspace was acquired by Eleven2, overselling was allowed. I wonder if this is the reason why. But everytime I ask the tech support, they won't go into details about what's causing the cpu spike and whatnot. If it's not the overselling and it's somebody's script that's causing this, why not provide a bit more details so it makes more sense. Their explanation is just "we're going to fix the problem". Right now, the CPanel & WHM are still inaccessible.

mrwaterdancer did you have a ticket number I can look into?

Posted by mrwaterdancer, 12-29-2011, 11:09 PM
It has just been solved just now ... last ticket #416351 You can go take a look at the downtime since November. You can see my previous tickets. I was hoping that Eleven2 won't oversell like Sharkspace. Sharkspace stood and said "no" to overselling. http://www.eleven2.com/blog/2009/08/...eller-hosting/ These mini downtimes, even if they're only 10-30 minutes but if it happens 1-3 times every week, it's not good. When it happens at night, my overseas clients keep emailing me at night just before I go to bed. Look, I'm not here to say that Eleven2 is bad, but these mini downtimes are getting annoying and something should be done about it. Moving me to a Cloudlinux server isn't going to do any good if you still overload the server. As per the posts on the first page of this thread, other people are experiencing the same thing even when they're on a different server. I was offered to be moved to "LIMA" server but it's probably going to be the same if it's still going to be overloaded.

You are still on an old SharkSpace server so the no overselling policy is still in affect unless you upgraded your package. The issue is due to one or two problem accounts and not due to the server being overloaded. It has not had a new reseller added since the merger. Soon we will be upgrading the ram on these old SharkSpace servers to 16gb or 32gb and installing cloudlinux to prevent issues like this from happening where one account causes a load spike.

I am in my 5th month as a reseller of Eleven2. Uptime, CPU load, and site speed has been fantastic. Support response time is outstanding. All in all they have been a great host. It hasn't all been perfect though. I have had some very minor issues, some questions in tickets have been answered with incorrect answers, escalated tickets take longer than I would like (this was on an issue that does take some time, PTR records), Ruby on Rails is advertised, support says it is not available, when you link to the package features it will be turned on after a while of waiting. My current issue is PHP. They are running 5.2.17, which is a quick fix security update to 5.2.16 which announced discontinued support of PHP 5.2.x in Dec 2010. I asked when an update can be expected, I was told there will not be an update. This doesn't sound like a feasible answer. I am a developer hosting multiple projects, the newest projects are built on the newest PHP. It makes it difficult to deliver a prototype that contains advanced OOP such as namespaces and late static bindings when my web host doesn't provide them. It is also hard for the client to swallow the fact that the project they are paying me for will not run on my main web server.

Thanks for the kind compliments. We are in the process of converting most servers to LItespeed (yet unannounced) once we get that converted, we will still offer 5.2.17 as default but will offer the ability to use other PHP versions such as 5.3.x. Right now we have a policy if we make a change to a single shared/reseller server we make that change to all servers, so by upgrading all servers to 5.3.x we will break so many sites it would be a horrible decisions to make at this time. If you really need 5.3.x I would highly recommend checking into one of our managed cloud servers we can instal whatever you need and its really not much difference in terms of cost.

I was coming to update my comment about PHP and I am now confused. I was told in a follow up response to my ticket that I can be moved to a server that does have PHP 5.3.8 on it, I am just now waiting on a response as to whether or not my Ruby on Rails will still be available after the change. Edit: Additionally, I looked in to the cost of a managed cloud server. To obtain comprable amounts of storage and bandwith it is 10x more expensive. Last edited by slbmeh; 01-04-2012 at 12:32 PM.
