Thinking about starting a reseller company

Posted by DetroitRight, 12-30-2011, 01:57 PM
and I have questions. Who's reasonable? Who's the best? Who do I avoid? I have $200.00 bucks. I'd like to use a little of that for investment capital. I have a complete Wordpress blog setup with SQL database, with registered domain that I'd like to put back up for archive purposes. But, I'd like to do a Moveable type Blog. Looking forward to the opinions on what I can do. Thanks! -Pat

If its just a start-up you can just but a decent re-seller package. Which location are you looking for? Please post specs. You will not need that sort of money yet. Re-seller hosting WHMCS Thats it! - Ashton

Ashton, pardon my greenness here. But what do you mean about location? I'm totally new at it.

I think he might be referring to where you want the server to be located. I'd recommend taking a look in the "Running a Web Hosting Business" forum to see what all is involved in starting a new hosting company, and the dedication and time required.

Just make sure you know unix really well and study cPanel/WHM and make sure you are very familiar with it and how to troubleshoot it in case there are problems.

Maybe have a look at Namecheap - they provide some good reseller packages with cPanel/WHMCS bundled.

I'm going to be 100% blunt, with no offense implied or intended. What is going to set you apart from the 5849058094 other hosts out there offering cut rate hosting? Your budget is more suited for running a lemonade stand and not a new company. Especially if you are on a free forum, asking for a step by step walkthrough on how to do it. Sorry, but it just isn't going to work.

Kind of harsh, but oh so true.

Joe is actually giving you sound advice.....it may not be what you want to hear but that's the reality of the situation.

snipped>> the guys made a valid point. ok, lets look at it this way, you are going to need a reseller account or a vps? so, there are thousands of providers, what will you look for? will you look for one that can give you 24/7 support? will you look for one that has the lowest price? the question is, you as a user, what draws you to choose a specific provider? Now once your setup, you have to think, what will draw users to your specific site, and not to the site that you use yourself. For example, i have a reseller account with hostgator.... if a client signs up with me, i can only give small HDD and small bandwidth and support is NOT 24/7, but if the client signs up with hostgator, its 1c to signup (with coupons) its unlimited bandwidth, unlimited HDD, and the support is 24/7. So my angle has to be unique, i have to offer something that hostgator doesnt. Last edited by bear; 12-31-2011 at 09:16 AM.

I apologize for my gruffness earlier. I have settled on hosting and yes, I am in the biz... Just a question, do I have access to a Signature on this forum or do I have to be a paying member to get that? Just wondering.

I believe you need to have made 10 posts and been a member for at least 7 days. Details are here.
