The crème de la crème of reseller hosting?

Posted by TheChal, 11-20-2011, 10:41 AM
I'm looking to cut my prices currently I have about two servers I pay monthly for, and another two annually, all hosting cPanel websites. I have about 300 cPanel websites but I want to save money without losing downtime, the whole reason I got my own premium servers was because I was fed up of providers going down, my cPanel servers all have 8 cores and a LiteSpeed 8-CPU license. Because I need to make savings I'm looking for a reseller host that is considered THE BEST, with least downtime and fast loading pages. I'm also going to need about 20 Dedicated IP addresses. Can anyone recommend a seriously good established reseller company?

Best I can tell you will need to stay with dedicated servers.

This question pops up a dozen times daily, and the answer is always to search the forum for reviews. There is no universally correct answer that applies to everyone. There is no single "best" provider out there. It's like asking someone what color or food is best.

Are you hosting any reseller accounts, or, are all of your customers single shared hosting accounts? What are the IPs used for - SSL certificates or other things?

You can have guaranteed uptime and control, or you can have low cost. But you cannot have both. Not knowing what you pay for dedicated ... If you're really looking to cut prices, I'd look to split up among a few known-good reseller hosts. I've had accounts on Stablehost, Stream101, EuroVPS, and some others. To date, uptime has been virtually 100% from each of them. Then again, that may come out to higher cost than a single dedicated server. If you're running a business, and can't break even, you may need to re-evaluate your business model. Possibly even consider price increase for customers, if it means the difference between continuing or not continuing the business. Best of luck to you.

I would suggest a vps, this way you have full control, dedicated resources and low cost.

What's your budget? How much space and bandwidth do you require, etc.

Do you really require a 8-CPU license? Dowgrading to 1 or 2 CPU license would help save a bit of money.

Will that translate into a huge performance loss? Last I read something about it, I believe that the answer was no (for the typical hosting environment), but my memory isn't flawless.

Well, certainly that depends on each server, however you might be right, this links explains it better and could be useful for others as well: http://www.litespeedtech.com/support...ense_to_choose

So you are using 4 dedicated servers? What is the total cost of those 4 servers? And are you using around 100% of the resources for each server? If not, it would make sense to just use one powerful server so resources are not going to waste. You should get a better deal with the more expensive servers too, especially when paying yearly. The only downside with using less machines is if the server goes down all of your customers will be affected. Have you considered replacing LiteSpeed with Varnish (Free https://www.varnish-cache.org ) or using the Varnish cPanel Plugin (Paid http://www.unixy.net/varnish/ @ $70 a year) You can't beat dedicated servers when it comes to performance and uptime. And I guess the need for 20 Dedicated IP addresses are for SSL certificates? Maybe you don't even need Varnish or LiteSpeed and just need a better spec dedicated server for a better price! You should contact some hosts to see what deal they can offer you. Last edited by HostXNow_Chris; 11-21-2011 at 05:35 PM.

That is not necessary unless that server is very extremely php heavy in most cases a 2 cpu or 4 cpu license will be good enough Not a huge performance loss as your typical shared server is a mixture of html & php driven sites. I personally find 2 cpu or 4 cpu licenses to be the best and most cost effective for your typical shared host, Simple reasons that on 2 cpu the caching starts and for AIO its best to match the litespeed license to your number of hard drives Last edited by Server Management; 11-21-2011 at 05:51 PM.
