Reseller Account with Multiple Datacenters?

Posted by sceadugenga, 05-11-2011, 05:38 PM
Hi Guys, We are currently moving away from Hostnine.com because of terrible support and downtime, so we're in the market for another hosting provider. Despite H9's support and uptime issues, then do have one very cool feature: for any new cpanel account, you can select a server location (US East, Central, West, Singapore, or UK). This is a pretty sweet option, as a good many sites we manage are geo-targeted. So we could have a CA-targeted site hosted on a US West server. Also, the array of servers and locations meant varied IP c-class addresses -- an important aspect for clients concerned with SEO. In doing a lot of searching, I've been unable to find another host who offers this same feature/functionality in its reseller accounts. In my experience, HostGator has fantastic support; however, all of the accounts would be on the same server, same IP, same location. Same with Site5, Eleven2, JustHost, etc. Does anyone know of any other hosting providers that allow you to pick your datacenter for each cpanel account you create? Thanks so much in advance!

Each cpanel account? Or each additional reseller account?

Wow, that's really cool and nice feature, so for each new cPanel account creation, you'll be able to choose its server location? Hmm.. so I guess HostNine have different servers (or maybe data center) for each of those locations/countries?

From what I see there are no other providers who are providing such similar system as it is custom built by H9 to integrate with their cPanel.

Yep, we have planned a similar system, but it wouldn't be ready for some time. I would guess early next year. Currently the best solution would be to get a reseller plan in each location and use it that way, but with that method your minimum cost is around $60 a month to get east coast / west coast / central. Plus if you want Europe that adds another $20, Australia, etc. Thanks, Ben

Thanks for the replies, guys! I was afraid that there wasn't currently a true alternative to this set up. I'm glad to hear Site5 is planning it, though. In any case, I've answered questions and such below: Each cpanel account (believe it or not). Different datacenters for each location. My guess is that with WHM this isn't possible(?), but H9 has their own custom-coded backend. That's awesome! We just purchased a Site5 reseller account last week (plus I used to have one before as well), and uptime/support has been excellent. That's kinda what I thought. This is what we are planning, but yeah, the price gets way more expensive per month.

Correct. Web Host Manager is for one single server, not multiple. I developed a large chunk of RCv3 before leaving HostNine -- As far as I know, they're the only ones that do it for web hosting services.

HostDime and UnitedHosting offer UK and USA Reseller accounts...

Hmmm... As an alternative, does anyone know of any hosts that sell smaller, sub $20 reseller accounts (so we could afford to have several without spending beaucoup per month)? I know Hudson Valley does. Any others? Thanks guys!

As long as the provider does not include unnecesary addons like billing system license into their reseller plans, they should be able to provide you with a more affordable pricing which should suit your needs.

Absolutely. Some provider costs are higher due to the reason it comes with WHMCS/IP/SSL/DOMAIN. Contact them for special pricing

I am quite particular many hosts will be happy to work with you to come up with smaller packages at different locations which would accommodate your needs. You should contact their Sales Department directly for this.

My Name's Jen Lepp, and I'm the Customer Experience Manager here at HostNine. It's nice to meet you! Though, I'm sorry to hear you're leaving us, especially since we just met. I want to apologize for any specific issues that you've had - we're aware of some of the issues that HostNine's faced and are currently in the middle of a substantial re-habbing of the company's services and servers and have dramatically changed a number of policies and procedures to address the support and stability issues that have plagued some of the H9 servers. If you have a specific ticket or set of issues, I would really like to hear about them, as we really are trying to correct absolutely everything that can be corrected anywhere we find a problem. Previously, HostNine has had a reactive stance with regard malware issues which is some of the reason for some of the instability, and in the past month, we've become extremely pro-active in scanning for and addressing those issues before they become a problem. We've also been reactive to server issues in the past (someone takes it down, we get it back up) and we've wholly changed that stance and are finishing up converting all servers to run CloudLinux so that it will let everyone's sites run with more stability, and limit the ability of resource hogs to jeopardize that stability and uptime for their neighbors. We're also expanding our ticket staff, chat staff, and phone staff as we speak to get better coverage, and are working very hard to change the level of support we offer with a goal of comprehensive answers delivered politely, and quickly. We're currently hiring for those positions now, so if anyone's interested, hit me up. The investment we're making in improvement isn't insubstantial and it's a big undertaking. When we're done I have no doubt that in addition to having a unique service, we'll have a fantastic service, but due to the issues it isn't something that changes overnight. A few months? Yes! Overnight? Unfortunately, no. Whether you stay or go, I would like to hear your issues so that I can address them or ensure that they don't happen for anyone else. If you could submit a ticket and ask that folks kick it to Jen, that'd be great. If you choose not to, I wish you luck in your search, and thank you for the time you have been with us, and apologize we didn't improve quick enough to keep you around!

Then if you are happy with HostGator you may try www.seohosting.com which is owned by them. Another option is to buy few budget reseller accounts (example: resellerzoom budget plans).
