installing ssl and stuck on step 4

Posted by durangod, 02-21-2014, 12:01 AM
Hi i have cpanel and whm but in whm i do not have the options to install ssl as a reseller. So i am using cpanel to do this. I am following this guide.. https://knowledge.rapidssl.com/suppo...LINK&id=SO8349 I got all the way to step 4 Activate SSL on Your Web Site (HTTPS) but i do not have the option to activate ssl on my web server. that option link is not there. i called my isp and they say they are not blocking anything. I read on cpanel that i may need to turn on this setting. "Allow cPanel users to install SSL Hosts if they have a dedicated ip" I have a ticket in with my host but honestly its been hours and no word, i need to get this taken care of today my ssl is already expired. Any ideas, thanks

When you got to cPanel -> SSL/TLS Manager, there should be an option manage ssl for your domains. Is that available? if the cPanel version is greater than 11.38, a dedicated IP is not required as it already have the SNI feature so you can install multiple SSL onto a single IP address.

my cpanel version 11.42.0 (build 12) i still do not have that option, and every time i click install in the image attached it says.. Your IP address (198.xxx.xxx.xxx) is shared with other users. Because your server does not support SNI, you must have a dedicated IP address to install an SSL-secured website. but this is my dedicated ip because i logged into whm and that is my ded ip on cpanel as well. see images attached.. I already had a ssl cert on here but rather than renew i did a new cert to add www to my common name to cover both and i had to do a new one anyway in order to get the discount at reseller price. Even though it's 11.42, I beli've they are running on a pretty old OS. As for CentOS, it should be 6 + Are you sure you are on a dedicated IP ? Or is it the dedicated IP of your reseller account? To confirm this, go to list accounts section in your reseller WHM and search for the IP.

yep that is the ip of my reseller account. so basically my host has to set this new cert for me since i dont have access?

I beli've that would be the only way as said by the screenshot provided. Normally resellers are not given privileged to install SSL, but cPanel users should have, I'm not sure why it doesn't show that. As a root user, you can install it in a single click. So better contact them. Mind mentioning the host you are on

i wish i could but he is a dear friend of mine and i think that might cause issues. Thanks so much, now i know why he told me to just renew it, so he would not have to add a new one. But the people at rapid ssl told me that was the only way to add www to my common name and also get the reseller price is to do it thru my reseller account. Im so glad its not me this time, i watched every video and read a ton of stuff today to get ready for this because i wanted no issues, i made lots of notes last time but something always happens every year i go thru this with this ssl, one thing or another lol.. Thanks so much for your help appreciate it tons

HostingFreakz is this true. I mean how you said that if your cpanel version is greater than 11.38 its all fine for SSl without dedicated IP?

Yes, that's true. cPanel 11.38 & Centos 6+ should have SNI support which allows you to install SSL certs on a shared IP.
