Posted by ahmedshaikh, 04-03-2014, 03:39 AM
We have 64000+ IP address and 8 racks in colocated data center Now to managed our bandwidth and abuses we are looking for routers as the switch do not provide much help in managing bandwidth We have used Mikrotik router CCR1036-12G-4S of 16GB memory and 36 core cpu but even thier latest OS version 6.11 is also useless and just turning on the router causes cpu usage to go to 100% and causes router to reboot every few minutes So we need a recommendation for good router wihch has GUI feature to manage it to handle 64000+ ip address efficiently to manage bandwidth and abuses

How much traffic you push? And about uplinks? 1,10GBs?

It will be 1GB

With such a large arp table and decent level of traffic your options are somewhat limited... you may require a chassis based solution from brocade (mlx), cisco (cat6k), or juniper.

any specific brand in cisco or juniper?

You should be throttling bw use at the switch, not the router. For example, the fesx448 allows you to speed limit the ports both inbound and outbound. This feature has worked well for us for customers who wanted unmetered bw with very specific rate limits. For a router, I agree with an Arp table that large you need a beefy router like a brocade mlx.

Foundry made some killer stuff when they were around. However, Brocade is good.

Hi, I agree with FastServ and funkywizard that you're probably looking at something in the MLX/MLXe range. If you end up going used, you might also consider the XMR.
