How to get my reseller to upgrade their back-end?

Posted by dwd_za, 02-16-2010, 04:23 AM
Hey all, I have been using resellerguru on their windows re-seller packages for about 4 years now (if not longer) but I need them to upgrade their back-end, like their MySQL which is currently on 4.1.8. I have asked them and then have said they would but with no timeline.. Any ideas on how I can pressure them. Any others out there who are using ResellerGuru and want them to upgrade as well ? Maybe we can unionise :p Dwd

There's nothing you can do but keep asking. They should upgrade sooner or later, which should always be sooner. BUT! From off their website they say they support "PHP (4 and 5)". So ask them why they haven't updated yet.

Yeah s'pose so eh. They're already offering PHP 4 and 5, but MySQL is still on 4.1.8. They have said that they have scheduled their SQL Server to be upgrade to 2008 which is cool, but nothing yet on MySQL or anything else... I hope they do so soon, as I am really happy with them and would hate to leave cause of a stupid thing like this.. anyways.. hope and see...

The only way is to keep asking your web hosting provider to update their mySQL version as soon as possible. You may also ask them why they don't upgrade/update it right away. There must be a reason for that, such as: 1. Not enough man power (system administrator) to do the update/upgrade. 2. Or maybe they have done some customizations to their hosting control panel systems or important services/apps, so that if they update/upgrade their mySQL version with new version, It won't compatible with the current control panel system/application (there will be a system conflict or whatsoever). 3. etc.

Either tell them you need it updated and then wait however long that takes or shift to a provider that keeps things up to date.

It is possible that the host is concerned with the update breaking an existing application. Discuss this with your host to find out why. Sometimes there are real concerns.
