ECUI down

Posted by gammad, 06-18-2009, 04:43 PM
Anyone know what is going on with ECUI.com? Right now, my server is down, their website is down, and their phone number is disconnected!!!

Posted by ebuck, 06-18-2009, 05:45 PM
Don't know but were they your web host? Their mail appears to be hosted at Godaddy, which probably isn't a good sign for a hosting company. Hope you get some answers. Ed

Posted by gammad, 06-18-2009, 06:09 PM
Yes, they were my webhost. I can't tell you how pissed I am right now. I ordered a new server from CoreNetworks.net but it could take up to 3 days for it to be ready. What's worse is that all my customer data was on that server, and I cannot get to it.

Posted by ebuck, 06-18-2009, 06:20 PM
That really sucks. If you're persistent, you may be able to get at your data. Someone has it. If not ECUI, then perhaps their upstream. Their upstream appears to be TimeWarner Telecom. You might try calling them to see if you can get more info. Good luck. Ed

Posted by aguiar, 06-18-2009, 06:52 PM
I am also on the ECUI boat. unfortunately i tried calling Time Warner Telecom and they can't provide any information on ECUI. I guess we are SCREWED big time. In my case I had 5 dedicated servers with them and over 80 hosted sites.

is there a way to find out if they are having problems with their internet lines or something? maybe their provider is down or something. I know this is wishfull thinking, but i refuse to beleive these guys would bill me yesterday for all server and shutdown operations today. If i do a traceroute it does not even reach the timewarner telecom dns or infrastructure it stays in sprint and then it disappears.

Posted by gammad, 06-18-2009, 08:00 PM
Wow aguiar, that is rough. I heard a rumor that ecui was bought by GoDaddy. I sent GoDaddy an email about an hour and a half ago but have not heard back.

Posted by Coolraul, 06-18-2009, 08:07 PM
Do you guys have any backups? If so, get a vps or via a provider with fast setups get another dedicated server to get your customers back in business. Corenetworks is good and if you explain that it is an emergency I am sure they will try to move things faster. They are good guys, call them and ask.

Posted by gammad, 06-18-2009, 09:08 PM
Luckily I have an automated backup system that obtains a snapshot of my customer database every night at midnight. The website files are all backed up. So building the new server will not be too difficult. I told Corenetworks about my plight and they said they would try to expedite delivery. What bums me out is that none of my customers can activate our software while the site is down!

Gammad, I know they are using the go daddy reseller mechanism on their "new" site. I am desperately trying to find a relative on the Orlando area to drop by to see if their offices are legit.

net, sorry but what does your post mean?

Posted by UNIXy, 06-18-2009, 09:30 PM
It's just forum moderator jargon. You can disregard it. I hope you're able to recover your data. Regards

Posted by davelora, 06-18-2009, 10:45 PM
My company's entire web site was hosted through them. One dedicated server, tons of public technical data about our products. We have a recovery plan but it will take a few days for DNS changes to propagate. (If anyone has better ideas let me know!) I have even tried searching my spam folders (without success) in case there was a notice about this. Any recommendations for hosting companies for Windows 2003 dedicated hosting, preferably ones that do not disappear without notice?

Posted by davelora, 06-18-2009, 11:46 PM
We have tried all of our phone numbers for eCUI (some of which may be outdated) and they are all either disconnected, or refers you to a 900 number. I also tried the tech support number listed at the top of their website (as of May 6 or so) but it goes to another company that supposedly provides support (and servers, I think) for MANY smaller companies like eCUI. The support agent genuinely wanted to help but could provide basically no information about eCUI, or why our site or eCUI's was down. I don't know if they are in possession of the server, or eCUI. What is strange is that as sketchy as all that sounds, we have been with eCUI for 6 years or so. We haven't had any issues with them really, except maybe a gruff attitude once. Maybe the pieces are starting to fit...

Posted by gammad, 06-19-2009, 12:06 AM
davelora, I feel your pain. I tried all the phone numbers too with no luck. There was definitely no notice. That rumor that godaddy bought ECUI looks to be untrue. Don't go with CoreNetworks.net. It has been 7 hours and my server is still not ready. They say it can take up to 3 days!

Posted by aguiar, 06-19-2009, 12:10 AM
Davelora I think the support you reached is for the Godaddy reseller program. I remember when they changed their site a couple months ago i called their support and played around in the site and the interface and prices wherea almost the same. I am hopping this is a network issue for them and not a going out of business sign. I even had a ticket opened this morning through their old site and they replied stating that is was being solved, but somewhere around 2pm they went offline.

Posted by davelora, 06-19-2009, 12:32 AM
From what I can tell it takes DNS 2-3 days to propogate around the world, no matter who you go with. Maybe they have faster ways these days, but not that I know of. That is why it is SO IMPORTANT for a hosting provider to give sufficient notice! My employee got hold of a service provider to eCUI--ISP maybe, I don't know--who said their service got shut off for overdue bills...I am not sure of the facts though.

Posted by davelora, 06-19-2009, 12:59 AM
Wikipedia has a better explanation of DNS 'propagation' than mine (see sections on Caching): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_name_system (sorry, it won't let me link to the URL because I have not made 5 posts yet, I just signed up to join this thread) I suppose if you are planning a DNS change you can maybe tweak TTL values to get a faster switch? But if you need to make a sudden change (like we do) then, well, I don't know if there is a way. I am more on the software side.

Davelora, XLhost.com gave me 5 servers in less than 4 hours. Very pleased with their help. make sure you talk to Saeed and let him know you are on my same boat.

Posted by aguiar, 06-19-2009, 07:23 PM
Ecui.com is back up and running. none of my servers are online and the phone number is still disconnected.

Posted by Dustin B Cisneros, 06-19-2009, 07:30 PM
I dont think godaddy bought them out i think they are a reseller for godaddy...

Posted by gammad, 06-22-2009, 04:48 PM
Four days later and my server is still down. I just want them to get it back up so I can get some files off of it. I already moved to Gigenet.com. I also canceled my credit card so that they couldn't charge it again!

[PHP] I did some research on ownership and this is what I found. In ECUI legal area they have a corporate name of Wild West Domains. If you go to the Arizona Secretary of States website you can do a corporation search to see who owns them. The Director and Tres are Bob Parsons. If you look at the officer change forms that were filed 2/15/2008 they will show that Bob Parsons was the Predident and Sec as well before that date. Bob Parsons, Mr. Godaddy Himself owns Wild West Domains that is the aprearant owner of UCUI. Isn't it crazy to think that he may be responsible for bringing down all our websites.

Posted by aguiar, 06-23-2009, 12:22 PM
Actually the real owner of the site lives in Orlando. ECUI was registered in Orlando before any agreements made with go daddy. This is the URL of the company before he realized things where going sour with his business and turned it into a go daddy reseller site: ecui.com/previous.asp In a corporate wiki search I came up with his name Edward Unrein and if you search him in the Orlando white pages you will find his business adress and home address: whitepages.com/search/FindPerson?firstname=Edward&firstname_begins_with=1&name=unrein&where=Orlando%2C+FL All results are for the person responsible for the whole mess.

That's because they resell for Godaddy, Godaddy doesn't own them

Posted by marawest, 06-24-2009, 01:55 PM
This has to be a fraud, right? All my information is gone! How can I get it back? ECUI is still down...

I just found out that ECUI double charged me in May. Better check your credit card statements.

Posted by marawest, 06-30-2009, 03:02 PM
We all should go after them

Posted by aguiar, 07-01-2009, 07:17 PM
I understand the Orlando Police Department has a Cyber Crime Division. The owner of the company is Edward Unrein and I have hois home address. I will call the Cyber Crime division and I will keep you guys posted to see if we can do a legal claim or lawsuit together but this Mother Flower HAS TO PAY for this. If anyone is interested in joining in let me know.

Count me in. I need to know what happened to my server and information it stored.

Posted by gammad, 07-06-2009, 05:46 PM
Aguiar, that is great. I am with you. Although I moved to another server, there seems to be a permanent 15% reduction in traffic to my site, I lost 3 days of sales, and I still need to get files off of the old server. I'd love to sue Edward Unrein for losses. He is a huge douche bag.

Gammad I feel your pain. Due to him I lost 6 ecommerce sites I was hosting and I think 2 of them had credit card information stored in the the databases, encrypted but stored. I talked to the Office of the Attorney General and they indicated we should start off by completing the following form and sending it in to their offices. The form can be downloaded at -remember I can’t post URLS so add the www dot in front of the link below: myfloridalegal.com/ConsumerComplaint.pdf The person I talked to believes this issue will be handled by the Internet Crime Complaint Center IC3 which is an entity controlled half by the FBI and half National White Collar Crime Center NWC3. The only setback is that the final decision or referral is made by the Attorney General we should wait and see what he replies with. Anyway if you want to go ahead and contact the IC3 this is their online site which I believe it has an online form and hotline Phone number I will keep you posted of all my findings hope you all do the same. Regards

Posted by aguiar, 07-09-2009, 03:35 AM
Sorry forgot to post the URL for the IC3: ic3.gov/default.aspx

Posted by gammad, 07-10-2009, 12:44 PM
Thanks aguiar. I just filed a complaint with IC3 and the FTC ( ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=en#last ). I hope everyone else does too. I also recommend declining the credit card charges for the last month of service.
