Earthlink?

Posted by rtestardi, 04-22-2009, 01:14 PM
Hi, Can anyone get to www dot earthlink dot net? (I'm not allowed to post a web address???) I'm on the phone with them and they say their "server" (singular) in Pasadena is down due to a "power outage"; they hope to have it back up tomorrow. I'm shocked by this, to say the least -- I always thought the major web hosting services had some form of (geographic) redundancy... In the meantime, I can't get to any of my three websites, and of course, neither can anyone else. Is this just to be expected? Also, does anyone know of a site that rates the uptime (thru polling) of the major web hosting services? Thanks! -- Rich

Earthlink has around 2.8 million customers. They provide cable, DSL, web hosting and VoIP services as well as dial-up...

Coming up on 24-hour outage. I'm an earthlink/comcast customer who's pretty angry. Their mail servers are back up, but you cannot get to them easily. And you can't browse. IM was working, but doesn't appear to be currently. Here's all their site has to say: "Last Updated on: 04/21/2009 22:01:04 Customers may get certificate error while trying to access www-dot-webmail-dot-earthlink-dot-net. Please use webmail-dot-earthlink-dot-net to access webmail. The certificate is updated is for webmail-dot-earthlink-dot-net & not www-dot-webmail-dot-earthlink-dot-net. So customers needs to access webmail-dot-earthlink-dot-net to check mails so they do not face any issues. In the meanwhile we are checking internally for a permanent solution of this issue." They appear to have lost their DNS. You can ping by IP, for instance, but can't use and DNS. Fortunately, I also have a Verizon broadband cell modem as a backup and have retrieved mail (which was delayed by as much as 12 hours) A terrible performance.
