Few Questions

Posted by Seeyabye, 10-27-2009, 08:32 PM
Hi, I'm new to reselling. I haven't started a reselling business yet. I'm just getting myself as much information as possible before I think of starting one. Basically, I saw one of the resellers offering something called Branded WHMCS and Unbranded. What is the significance of this? What if I choose not to go with the both of these since it's under addons?

Branded means it has "Powered by WHMCompleteSolution" in the footer of your WHMCS software. Unbranded means it is just blank, no WHMCS branding.

Ah I see. How about rapidSSL and just normal SSL? Also about dedicated IP address, is the purpose only to mask your main host?

RapidSSL is just a standard SSL certificate. Cheap and basic no frills to encrypt traffic via secure connection. Then there are more expensive EV certificates (Extended Validation) and those are not cheap. SSL requires a Dedicated IP address. Also you want to keep separate your billing system from your client system. i.e. separate VPS or something.

When a host says they offer WHMCS and Cpanel, doesn't it mean they already provide you a billing and support system?

WHMCS = Billing/Support System cPanel/WHM = Server Management System for more server related tasks, tweaking settings, account changes beyond the scope of the billing/support system.

So if they only said that I'm offered a Cpanel/WHM, I'm all on my own to create my support and billing script?

Or you can purchase a license directly from www.whmcs.com Also www.clientexec.com is an alternative. They may also charge extra for a billing system addon. Most reseller hosts would be glad to answer these questions. If not then i'd worry

Some reseller's just don't provide enough information lol... can't be helped. That's why I need to equip myself with some of these basics before hand. Thanks mike! I'll ask more when I in doubt.

No problem, just wondering who you were dealing with that they left you in the dark with the basics. Give em a boot to the head

I'm checking out hostmediauk.com's reselling. It's cheap that's why I'm in doubts. I've been hosting with them for like almost 1 year now with zepx.co.cc. As you can see their uptime for the whole 1 year is 99.56%, which is considered reasonable for a shared hosting that offers you 5 pounds with 1GB diskspace and 10GB bandwidth for the entire year. So far their support ticket replies within 24hours even on weekends . The bad side is not much information is provided.

Never heard of either one However I'm assuming that UK would explain that. I prefer 1~ hour support ticket responses even on weekends. Hosting providers should not sleep. EDIT: Also in that price range, it should still be 99.9% uptime from a reliable provider. Though I'm not familiar with non-US pricing. Last edited by MikeTrike; 10-27-2009 at 09:59 PM.

I've had people just trip out because I answer all their questions and some. I'd say 1 in 20 goes the extra mile, and with so many thousands, that sounds about right. Heck maybe more with so many 'fly by night' operations. WHT is also the only place you will find a good mix. There is generally a balance of 50/50 (or 1 in 2) on here so you usually get what you need here from somebody.

Welcome to the world of reselling I have several reseller accounts with different web hosts but I use them for my own web sites, friends and family. Have you figured out how you're going to offer technical support to your clients 24/7/365? You may want to consider a reseller host which offers "end user support". EZPZ and InnoHosting offer reseller hosting with end user support. They're probably not as cheap as you're looking for but as the old saying goes, "you get what you pay for"

Thanks for the recommendation Ross

It's always a good idea to get in touch with the hosts directly as well. This gives you an opportunity to not just have your questions answered but also get a general feel of the company. All the best with your search Zepx and let us know how you get on!
