Is the Suhosin project dead?

Posted by TechniSmart, 09-10-2013, 02:02 PM
When I upgraded to PHP 5.4.19 I noticed suhosin was not in the build. Some unqualified chatter says we have nothing to worry about as the new PHP 5.4 is much more secure and does the job of Suhosin. Is this true? Now I look into Suhosin and see it has not been developed for over a year. Many consider it a dead project. The cPanel forum has a thread where the DEV promised a PHP 5.4 compatible patch in May, then June, now when? Ubuntu already list it as a dead link and exclude it. Should we be concerned or would you downgrade to 5.3.27 with the last known Suhosin even though PHP version is DEPRECATED? Finally, does anyone know of an open source or commercial alternative to Suhosin that runs on the latest PHP including 5.5.3 EXPERIMENTAL? Thanks. Last edited by TechniSmart; 09-10-2013 at 02:04 PM. Perhaps people wised up and started coding in Python and/or Ruby.

Unlikely the reason.

I think the guy is just busy and no one pays him to write it. Maybe I will email the Dev. This can happen with any community project.

I just downgraded to PHP 5.3.27 and Suhosin 0.9.10 runs fine. So what are you using in place of Suhosin on 5.4?
