Need advice for reseller hosting

Posted by PNH-Madih, 06-02-2008, 09:19 AM
Well I am just starting a web hosting company in 2 months. I am thinking to buy resellers plan from webhostingbuzz.com and hostgator.com 25GB Space from hostgator 50GB Space from webhostingbuzz.com Now I am very scared from reseller hosting e.g someone from my customer will spam then they will suspend my account. Or any other activity from my client can lead to suspension of reseller account. Can you guide me how to avoid reseller accounts from being suspended. Also please tell me the factors that can lead to suspension of my account. Although the suspension of reseller account for even two minutes can damage the image of my company.

Most providers do not suspend your entire reseller account, but the account doing the spamming. I would of course ask each provider what their policies are on reseller accounts and abusive users on the account. Just screen your customer accounts so no setting up of spammers or anything like that. Also act on any complaints your host sends you. Some resellers ignore repeated emails about spammers on their accounts and things like that then their entire account ends up suspended. So just stay on top of things and I doubt you have anything to worry about.

OR ask hostgator or other to setup a contact email to email you if anythign comes up and you can take action. Regards

Only abuse domain is suspended. I don't think any providers would suspend the whole reseller account just because one website sends spam.

Educating your customer to keep their scripts upgraded will minimize the chances of them being exploited and used to send spam. Carefully screening new customers, so that no fraud orders get access to the server will also help minimize troubles. As said by others above, in normal circumstances, the vast majority of hosts will not suspend an entire reseller account, but the infringing end user account/site.

For us at least, we have a grace period where we'll pass along the abuse report. If no action is taken and we get a second report, we'd then suspend the account in question.

The host stops or kills the spammer for spamming issues. No host will suspend your account with prior notice. Your accounts or other domains will never be suspended, only the domain/user who spams may be terminated immediately or after a notice. You don't have to worry about it, just send a mail to the user that you are spamming the server.

mostly just people that give free reseller hosting will suspend your account if one of your customers spams. I'd suggest getting a master reseller account, it's a little more expensive, but then you can offer your customers hosting and reseller hosting, which will make more people wanna use your host. I suggest for reseller hosting and master reseller hosting, start out with a small plan, and when your host gets bigger to upgrade, so you don't need to pay to much, because in the beginning you probably won't have more than 5 customers

Actually gimgak we have started with big project as we will offer 4 control panels at th begining (rest features I am not telling as WHT leader will delete this thread giving the reason that I am doing site promotion). So I have setup. No I am in doubt that resellers account can be blocked but hostgator in their sites is mentioned that they are hosting more than 10,00,000 domains. So that thing feels me good that they will not suspend my reseller account...they will just suspend that certain domain spamming.

the truth is, even if people say a big webhost deleted their site and that they are a scam, the chance of that happening to you is 1 in a million, so you are pretty much good with most big hosts. Even with Godaddy, who has TONS of people that say it's a scam, has probably a chance of 0.0001% that they will delete your account without reason. Go with hostgator to begin with, but i still think you should upgrade to master reseller later

Most companies generally suspend the resold account that used many system resource or hosted illegal content. But some of them(bad providers according to me) suspend the reseller account. I had thinked to buy a reseller from Hostgator long time ago. But I had saw a customer's message that his reseller account suspended by Hostgator because of used many system resource. So I was afraid of this and went to another company.

Ya that is the main point that availing all the available resources can suspend the reseller account but how can I avoid it ?

I'd say, don't oversell to much. If you have 50 customers, don't squeeze them all in on one reseller account. Get another one. Also, I suggest getting a partner or two to help with support, account creation etc.

hmm ya thats a good point setting up a limit of the accounts. But why these web hosting companies provide resources which they cannot afford. Thats not fair for me atleast.

they oversell, it's the only way they can get lots of customers.
