Trying to setup my server so the FQDN is correct. I had this down a few weeks ago now I'm lost again. What am I doing wrong? Running ubuntu 12.04 Here is /etc/hosts and /etc/hostname Apache says "pache2: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 2001:4800:780e:510:80a6:c43a:ff04:5f1c for ServerName" Also how do I setup DNS for this? I have @ & * A name records, do I also need to setup an A name record for master1204? Thanks

You can set ServerName globally in Apache to get around this warning. As for the server's hostname itself, it doesn't take affect immediately when updating /etc/hostname file. What do you get when you run the 'hostname' command?

hostname i get master1204 hostname -f i get master1204.fieldwalsh.com but still getting the apache error. I'm doing this so that mail works. Doesn't reverse DNS require this to all be setup

Please make sure that you have entered the correct servername in your Apache configuration file [httpd.config] file. It should be something like: ServerName yourservername If you do not find this entry then please add it and restart Apache to make the changes in effect. Yes, you should make A record entry for master1204 in your DNS of fieldwalsh.com domain name.
