BOO FATNETWORK

Posted by gwxweb, 02-18-2008, 08:08 PM
I was disgusted by this hosting. They are definately not what they supposedly used to be. I was with them for a month or so, but my account and all servers seemed to have been hacked daily, and sites would be down, even after numerous password changes like they suggested. I moved hosts today, thank god, and I will not be going with fatnetwork.net anymore.

Yikes, their uptime isn't looking too good either: http://www.webhostingstuff.com/uptime/FatNetwork.html Were the hackers able to root the entire server on a daily basis or were they able to gain entry only to individual accounts through PHP vulnerabilities, weak passwords, etc? Getting a server rooted daily is frankly unheard of. For the legal sake of FatNetwork, I hope they put together a good indeminification clause in their TOS.

I've got a feeling we won't be seeing any follow-up but, nice if we did. Chances are it was a big fat gaping hole in someones script hosted on the server. On a side note: many moons ago I had an account with them and I experienced all manners of problems with them. The servers don't seem secured very well - poor set-up

I just got charged by them, and was not expecting it so now i have an overdraft in my account!! What is this. I sent them an email cancelling my account two weeks ago, its time to look through the tos, anyone want to help??

Was it for partial month (or similar) charge? Did you get any confirmation from FatNetwork of cancellation?

Did you receive confirmation of the cancellation? Push, via any contact method available, for a confirmation. Getting a compensation for that overdraft might prove difficult though.

topic is a bit old but I thought it was a good one to address my experience. I hosted with fatnetwork for about a 1.5 years. The first few months i was with them i received excellent service, no downtime, no problems. Then they said they were moving servers and since that point all i had was a bad experience. My site was always down, the server was always crashing hard drives, ram, etc. finally i was fed up with this company and i asked for my refund of the payment i had made a few days later and they declined the refund, and removed my account so i lost tons of files. One month later I was billed again for some odd reason and paypal okayed it so i lost another payment in which they would not refund. Overall do not host with fatnetwork.

I remember that Fatnetwork provide hosting on Ebay. Their uptime doesn't look good recently.

Late reply, but valid nevertheless. Let me sign in on FatNetWork naysayers. I've been with them for quite some time and, as Hyptonic stated, they were a good host for hobby webmasters. Lately, however, my sites and those of my clients have been hacked on a daily basis. I hired 2 coders from getacoder to lock up all the sites. They did their best; but really couldn't find any holes in the scripts. Thus, the hacking continues. I emailed the president of the company, Rick Orford, for his input into this issue. Naturally, he never replied. And, so, what was once a decent host has become an absolute nightmare. I'm now in the process of moving a boat-load of accounts to another host that has secure servers. Live and learn.
