Logins & Passwords

Posted by Grimley, 10-25-2012, 03:17 PM
How do you guys store all the logins & passwords? I feel that storing them in a .txt file is a bad way since your computer might crash or hacked etc. Any tips? Note: I don't have a printer.

It depends on which type of password you want to store, but you should check LastPass. It's the best Firefox/Chrome extension IMO.

For me I'm just able to remember them all. Then again, I don't have that many.

There are a number of programs / things you can do to store passwords & logins.. You can use notepad which you don't want to, then there is xcel , Microsoft word and other programs. If you don't want to do it this way then go and save them on a usb drive and store that drive in a good place.. Or just get a book / notepad and write the information you want stored down then lock it somewhere safe where no one else will see or read it.

If you are using Windows 7 then you can use Windows 7 Credential Manager to save important credentials like user name and password so that you can easily login to different websites or secure computers. To launch it go to Start > Control Panel > Credential Manager.

For some stuff, I just memorize them. For others, I use KeePass which encrypts the password file.

KeyPass using a password + key file. The key file is stored on a USB thumb drive that is ONLY inserted when I need to access the KeyPass database. Several backups of both are stored in independent locations and what not in case I ever lose the thumb drive.

Seconded. KeePass is great, works cross platform (including mobiles) and can decrypt the contents using a password and/or key file if you have one. Combining it with a service like DropBox and you've got secure passwords synchronised wherever you go.
