Getting an Error installing Development Tools - HELP please

Posted by IrishDoc, 10-30-2012, 04:54 PM
My server is running centos 5.8 with kernel 3.2.13-grsec-xxxx-grs-ipv6-64. When I try installing 'Development Tools' I am getting this error after a few seconds of the install start -- Can someone explain this to me and help me with a fix???

CentOS 5.8 with 3.2 kernel? Surely, you don't expect YUM to act normal after that.

I wasn't the one who set it up like that and I am not sure how to change it. What would you suggest?

Just switching to an older kernel will not fix the issue here. You'll actually have to remove the kernel from your system (atleast off the RPM db) to get YUM working properly again. Someone else who has attempted this would probably provide better advice.

Centos 5.8 doesn't run too badly with a 3.0 or 3.1 kernel at least. The only real issue I've found is that iptables needs updating. To the OP, what happens if you just install kernel and kernel-devel but continue booting off your current kernel? Just because you have a kernel installed doesn't mean you have to use it.
