Daily Backup (WHM)

Posted by Kotsolis, 10-29-2012, 08:42 PM
Hi, I have enabled daily backup in WHM for months now, but it seems that it doesn't take a backup. I've even saw a single file in /root/backup folder (the location for backups). Any ideas?

Heya! Have you checked the server logs? It's one of the basic things that you should check if you have problems with your server.

To clarify a bit for you: I would suggest logging in through SSH as the root user. From there, you can execute "/scripts/cpbackup --force" to manually launch the backup. Once started, the following should appear: You can then monitor the logs as so: Any errors within this log can aide in determining whether or not an error is preventing your backups from running. You can certainly post the logs in here (exclude account info) if you need a bit of guidance correcting an error. Usually an email is sent to cpanel@host.domain.com (aka the email address configured through WHM to handle the 'cpanel' user's email in "Edit System Mail Preferences") following the completion of a successful backup.

The root crontab for backup should already be emailing the results of /scripts/cpbackup to the root account. However, if you have set your email address there then please check that email address and see if you see any error message to start the backup process.

I'm fairly sure the backup process doesn't have permissions to /root Leave the folder as the default /backup

What point is there backing up to the same drive anyway? At the very least it should be a secondary drive, or better still a remote location (or both). That drive fails and all is lost, without hope, pretty much.
