Dathorn, InnoHosting or KnownHost

Posted by Ireland, 06-11-2007, 03:54 PM
Short list of Reseller Hosting Plans. I'm considering these three companies for a small valued-added webdesign firm. Most of the sites hosted will be Non-profit and informational in nature. Estimated bandwidth usage per month estimated at 15gb. Therefore, big is not a need. But support, reliable service and security is very important. I narrowed down my search to these three as the best fit for what I need at this time. I need to make a final choice before June 15th so any additional input on any of these companies would be appreciated. http://www.Dathorn.com their 4/60gb plan http://www.InnoHosting.com their 5/100gb plan http://www.KnownHost.com their 5/40gb plan Thanks for the feedback

Our hosting provider is different than these. But if you try search them on http://www.webhostingtalk.com/search.php when you maybe find the reviews that made about these sites/companies. Also you can find more reliable hosting providers in this forum by reading the reviews. Good luck!

KnownHost has live chat support. That is important for a reseller. I don't think the other two do. Just something to consider.

It's good to see you have narrowed your list down. Are there any features that one of those offers, that the other's don't? That could help you narrow it down some more. Searching WHT for reviews has already been noted above, but also check out Google or another search engine. That'll let you see a larger picture and help you with your decision. Good luck!

It's only for sales, isn't technical support. So it isn't important. Last edited by domaincart; 06-11-2007 at 05:41 PM.

The biggest feature difference I see is that enduser support and client exec are included with only one of those hosts Otherwise all three have a great reputation

I am using InnoHosting and i can't be happyer then that. It's really a pleasure with them. Extremly fast support, no noticeable downtime, great people.

Well yes I agree ...but not JUST great people ...:also a cool BORG

Posted by nbradfish, 06-13-2007, 11:53 PM
Agreed, I'm also with InnoHosting. Support responses are always helpful and very quick, most of the time within a couple of minutes.

Well, folks I signed up with http://www.Dathorn.com on Tuesday. I moved about 20 sites and ALL when smooth. I had a few (4) support tickets. Andrew and William handled them all within 30 minutes. I changed nameservers in the process for the sites I moved and happy to say not one stayed offline. My clients never knew the process took place as it all happened overnight June 13th. So, for now Dathorn has been a good move for me. I'll keep you posted with Reviews. Also, I am still thinking about trying http://www.KnownHost.com for a small project. My final two came down to Dathorn and KnowHost and a close friend had Dathorn for years and filled me in on his ups and downs. Too many positive things to not try them.

Do dathorn allow overselling on BW and disk?

Posted by Ireland, 06-14-2007, 09:10 PM
To tell you the truth I do not know. It was not an item I needed to consider. However, I think there is information in their open online forum at http://forums.dathorn.com/ So far they have been very nice and the setup was smooth. I will report more as time passes.

Today, June 14th I signed up with http://www.KnownHost.com .... The whole process took only a couple hours. I signed on at 4PM est and my site was online with DNS by 6PM est... I must be

Please post a follow up review for dathorn and knownhost in 3-6 months

Posted by ldcdc, 06-15-2007, 04:54 AM
Good luck with both providers! Last I heard, they didn't. It's (was) part of what keeps their costs at their current level.

Dathorn seems also not to provide backups as a standard service? "Daily, Weekly, or Monthly Backups $2.00/month per GB of disk space in chosen plan"

Posted by Dathorn-Andrew, 06-15-2007, 11:16 AM
We do not allow overselling. All new accounts have automated weekly backups to two different locations, we will be adding a 3rd location in a different region of the U.S. within the next 1-3 months (we'll actually be doing our first test of this new location today or tomorrow). These backups are for our use only (in case of system failure, disk corruption, etc.), if you wish to recover something from them there is a one-time fee of $5 per domain account (as created in WHM). You can also subscribe to the additional backup service as you quoted above and choose your own frequency (daily, weekly, monthly). You have direct access to these via FTP and SSH 24/7. Our website does not reflect this as we are currently in the process of creating a new website and a new version of our customer control panel. There are also a few remaining older servers that have not yet been converted to this backup system. These should be converted over within the next 2 months. We didn't really feel comfortable updating the current website until all servers were included. Please drop us an e-mail at sales@dathorn.com if you have any further questions.

Let me add that emergency backup is a must and I like what I see thus far at Dathorn. I've moved about 25 site now to Dathorn Servers and the process was fast and my client site load alot faster. Nameserver, websites and emial accounts were all active at new location within 2 hours of setup... no loss time or emails. Point of interest I use Domain Resellers StarGate and SRSPlus... smooth, real smooth As for personal backups I ALWAYS try to backup ALL my clients sites to my own HD at least once a week. Part of doing business....

Actually after being with knownhost for so long, i do know that their live support does have tech support.

Posted by Ireland, 08-30-2007, 12:40 PM
Well, I have been with Dathorn and KnownHost for three months and all is working smooth. Any (very few) support tickets I have had were all answered very quickly by both companies. Mail servers have been functioning much better than my last host. My signature page loads twice as fast as on my last server and I changed nothing. Also, On Sunday I signed on with InnoHosting under their special. As time progresses I will update my experience with them.

Glad to hear that you are happy. All three on your list are excellent hosts.

Posted by Ireland, 08-30-2007, 03:19 PM
Yes, my previous host was very goo as well. However, they were very costly. Not flexible on making a deal either. I now have 6 times the space and 8 times the bandwidth on three servers locations and I'm still saving about $4 amonth. After my test period it will be hard to narrow it down to one host. Perhaps my clients will increase to cover all three.

Hi Folks, Well I have been working on these three Resellers. http://www.Dathorn.com their 4/60gb plan http://www.KnownHost.com their 5/40gb plan http://www.InnoHosting.com their 15/250gb plan All three are working wonderfully. I really like Dathorn the best for the smooth no problem mail servers. Andrew is on top of any problem. My old host had gotten black listed a number of times and as a result my clients had problems sending smtp mail. Not anymore with Dathorn or KnownHost. I have only been with Innohosting a short time but all seems smooth. I'll work with them over the next few months and see how they perform. If all goes well I hope the load a number of new sites on there. I'll keep you all posted in another month on the status of all three.

Posted by Ireland, 01-07-2008, 09:30 AM
Here is an update on the above Resellers. ALL three are TOPs and I have had NO problems with any one of them. Since I signed up for Innohosting they had some promotions. I now have the Professional Plan for the cost of the Deluxe Plan (a great deal ). Since I have such a GOOD deal with Innohosting I figured it was time to adjust. As of this week I will continue with Dathorn and Innohosting. I will cancel my Knownhost Reseller plan. NO problem with Knownhost. Great support and customer service. Always FAST to respond even on weekends. I just do not need three Resellers account any longer at this time. BUT I would use and recommend Knownhost to anyone. With the extra deal I got from Innohosting I now have more hosting and more features to be flexible with my business plans. Dathorn is a ROCK and I have not had one problem with them. I use them for my orginal clients and my personal and business sites. I will expand my business and place new clients on Innohosting with confidence. I would recommend any of these Resellers.

I have been with Knownhost for over a year - very satisfied.

Posted by edu4vision, 01-08-2008, 09:03 AM
Yeah, KnownHost is very reliable and have a very good reputation. I am very satisfied with their support. For InnoHosting, thanks for the udated review. But I still have some reservation. I still remember they have quite a problems sometimes ago.

It's worth noting that these were isolated incidents of only a couple of people which happened many months ago when we were doing a mass migration from rented servers to our own servers and equipment. Thanks for the review! Glad to know you're happy

I've been with dathorn since late 2003, Over these 4+ years I've tried several other resellers/hosts/VPS including mediatemple, site5, netfirms, 1and1, serveraxis and more. I sleep better knowing that I won't have unexpected problems and support issues. I have nothing but great things to say about dathorn's reliability, uptime and support response time. I keep all my important sites at dathorn, plus you can get postini.
