Reseller suggestions for blocked port user

Posted by lightasair, 01-07-2008, 06:38 PM
I am interested in how many reseller plans would have the following features: 1. They run (or can run) their control panels on a separate IP as its own website instead of on a port so that I can access it in a business environment that blocks almost all hosting control panels setup on ports. (Required) 2. 24/7 Live Support with people who can actually answer questions or make things happen. 3. They do not require SMTP authorization. 4. Do not oversell. 5. 25-35/month range 6. Bandwith (50-80GB) with options to upgrade 7. Disk Space (5-10GB) again, with option to upgrade. So far, reliablesite.net is the only one I have found who gets at least 5/7. Is there anyone out there who can get a 7/7

I'm assuming that you're looking for windows reseller plan. No serious administrator would allow sending emails on a windows box without SMTP authorization. If you can find one, you actually put yourself at risk of having emails blocked by many email providers.

I am not necessarily looking for a windows hosting provider. I work with php/MySQL and don't ever really use .NET. Could you help me understand why it is that windows requires SMTP authorization and Linux does not?

Hi, I am not sure if No1 is possible with reseller account since it's server-wide setting unless you get the VPS or dedicated server... Also "No SMTP authorization." what do you mean? why do you require that?

I am not sure if you can or not, but can't you just change cPanel to listen on a different port, one thats not blocked at your business. Or does cPanel not allow this feature? Of course you would have to have root access to a dedicated server or you could get a $40 a month VPS with a cPanel license. A lot of VPS Plans about would meet your requirements.

I think that I am just beginning to realize some of the differences between Linux and Windows hosting. My problem with it is that the Wordpress doesn't work out of the box with it and since I am not a hard-core programmer it usually requires a level of programming slightly above mine to get validation scripts and formail to work just the way I want. So it seems then that I am looking for a linux server? How much more work is it to run a VPS than a reseller account? Do I have to manually install everything? Do hosting providers ever provide support for VPS accounts?

What kind of validation scripts? What port number does it use? VPS is simply same as dedicated server which mean you need to manage it;setup, optimizing, installing server-side programs, hardening, monitoring...so on.. If you are really looking for VPS, I would recommend "managed" VPS.. good luck.

I don't think that I want to deal with a VPS. The scripts are just basic php validation scripts for formmail. The common ports for cpanel seem to be 2083(2) but they are blocked.

they" means at your work? hm.. what kind of validation scripts for formmail require particular port?..normally 80 port should be okay..?

Just found out about this: http://cpanelproxy.net/autoinstall that seems to be for the moment getting around my port problem. Does anyone know any long term potential problems with this or if it could be a long term solution?

http://cpanelproxy.net/autoinstall shows white/blank page... is this proxy site?

Yes, I think that their download is having problems or is down, that is the site with the script though.

php sendmail is usually available on linux hosting; all emails sent out can be tracked as sending from your website. If you require cpanel running on different port (not 2082/3), i think you will need at least a VPS Try Find a Host link to see if someone offer or willing to configure cpanel on port 80.

They do not require SMTP authorization." I doubt any real webhosting company would want to do that.
