DNS Hosting

Posted by HostFriendly, 10-09-2012, 01:11 AM
Hi, We need DNS hosting service, but the one which will give almost 99.99% uptime. Currently from cheap ones i have found PowerDNS and Enom Remote DNS hosting. Can you tell which one is preferable and recommend any other ? One more question, it hackers do attack to those dns servers, it means all the domains will get down? If so isnt it risky ? Regards.

CloudFlare allows setting MX records ? And i also want one for reselling my clients That is the reason why i need possible cheap and high quality, reselleble dns hosting.

Lots of providers out there which you can choose from. Checkout the following: XpertDNS.com , Dyn.com , easydns.com ...

Are those DNS servers DDOS tolerant or go down as soon as attacked ?

It totally depends on the size of DDOS attack. If you are already using cPanel/WHM in your server then what about cPanel DNS only? It allows to run a dedicated physical nameserver, which you can then link to your web server(s) using WHM's DNS Clustering feature. Any change to your web server's DNS information will automatically be sent to the DNS ONLY server. The main advantage to DNS ONLY is stability. If your web server has an outage, your DNS information stays accessible, even when your web server is offline. This allows visitors to reach websites on your server more quickly after the web server comes back online.

I would recommend you to go with Enom.

You can use cloudflare if you want to protect your website against the ddos attack. It will not reveal your website IP in whois record so atleast it avoids IP targeted attack on the website.

Yes. We become your DNS provider if you signup with us directly, which means you manage your whole zone file from our site.

This would really only apply to basic lookups against a domain (dig, nslookup, etc.). We don't really position ourselves as an IP protection service at all. But...we can definitely help mitigate many http://attacks.

As far as a DNS only provider is concerned, I would highly recommend DNS Made Easy.

DNS Made Easy and Route53 are both awesome and pretty cheap. DME even gives you 3 failover A records in their base package. Failover records are really cool if done right.

I'm glad to finally see DNS Made Easy recommended. I also recommend them highly, easy to setup, and works great.

DME for the win or your cPanel only vps/server, at least 2-3 of them
