Who is the most reliable + best support

Posted by littlened, 04-28-2007, 05:45 PM
Continuing from my post the other day about requiring some sort of failover hosting. I'd like to enquire about who people think are the best companies when it comes to reliability and providing support. I have my accounts with resellerzoom, and signed up for a reseller account with them, which is setup but isn't working and support have had my ticket for over 12 hours now. Resellerzooms support was always great, but since they've added failover, VPS and now windows hosting, support seems to have gone down hill. I'm not particularly bothered about failover hosting, as from what I've read it can still have as much downtime as any hosting account. Are there any reseller hosting services offered by the datacentres themselves?

Is there any reason why you would prefer a reseller hosting service directly through the datacenter? Most datacenters want to focus on only a few services rather than branching to the different levels of hosting. Likewise, it is often times cost ineffective for a webhost offering shared and reseller accounts to open their own datacenter for their services.

I'm not specifically looking to host with a datacentre directly, it was just an extra question in my post. I figured that if you dealt directly which the datacentre you would cut out the middle man. i.e. if there is a problem, I have to deal with my host, who in turn may have to deal with their provider (the datacentre). However if your host and the datacentre are the same company, then theres no middle man. Not sure if there would be any advantage in it.

A reputable DC would rarely have any problems.. Therefore if you choose a host with their own servers... and control over those servers then the host would rarely need to contact their DC in regards to client problems.. They should be able to fix it right away.. Also consider a company with their own DC may put priority on colocation & dedicated server customers rather than the their shared hosting customers...

I understand what you are saying. Honestly, if you are dealing with a company that owns their own equipment and collocates in a Data Center and has their own staff at the Data Center, you are pretty much dealing with the same thing. As for your question, the "most" reliable will be quite subjective - I guess a better question would be who is the most reliable for $10 or for $50, etc... The high quality providers are the ones that have been around awhile. The ones that come to mind are dynamicnet (most expensive), digitallyjustified, bluefur.com (formally monsterhosting.ca), hostnexus and rochen. Now, I only have experience with some of these hosts, and mostly indirectly - but, these are the providers who have been around for awhile, have a solid history of uptime, have very little overall negative feedback, etc... Alot of this will depend on which control panel you ultimately decide on - as this will help you narrow down your search somewhat. Check with providers that have been around for several years, have a history of uptime you can look at, have little or no negative reviews - and your chances of finding a reliable provider will skyrocket... Hope this helps and best of luck with your search....

What stealthdevil said is right ... However HostGator don't actually own ThePlanet but, with them having so many servers in the the DC they are reputed to have a very close, hands on and cozey relationship with ThePlanet Hope this helps

I am not doubting this statement in the least, however, is HG not just leasing servers from theplanet? Solid relationship or not, they do not control their own networks/infrastructure - and regardless of anything else, having direct control over your own infrastructure/networks is significantly different then leasing servers from a data center. Any large colocation customer is pretty much managing their own "mini" data center within a data center. Often times they would purchase their own bandwidth, routers, switches, power, etc - the only thing the Data Center is responsible for is leasing out the space in the Data Center and ensuring primary power is flowing, environmental controls are working and physical facility security is maintained.

They do but, I was trying to compromise between the two extremes (direct at DC and reseller). I was reading some info. from ThePlanet not long ago and ThePlanet executives were going into quite a lot of detail of their relationship with HostGator and vise-versa. By the end of it one could be forgiven for thinking that ThePlanet and HG hadn't merged or HostGator wasn't a front for ThePlanet (metaphorically not literally).

Sonet7 is a division of Liquidweb. They own two datacenters and offer shared, VPS and dedicated servers. I've been with them for over a year now and can say they're top notch. The real kicker for me is the 24/7 phone support. It doesn't matter whether you're a shared or dedicated customer..they're always there for you and generally you won't even have to wait more than 3 rings for someone to pick up. I've never had to wait on hold. They should offer most, if not all of the services you require. And, as far as downtime goes..I've had minimal downtime in the year I've been with them. Top notch provider and easily the best I've been with.

I signed up with innohosting.com as I jumped on their promotion that was 80% off I beleive its till tomorrow they have very great service there and I do beleive they also have their own data centers they offer reseller accounts along with VPS and dedicated servers as well. Another choice would be wirenine I know their services are very good as well. These are just a couple of thoughts I had for you to possibly look at. Tom

Sorry but, IH don't own the SoftLayer DC but, they certainly know how to manage a server or 2 or 3 ...
