Looking for a reliable yet affordable host

Posted by LickMe, 04-20-2007, 01:54 PM
I've read all the horror stories about people getting reseller hosting from company X for a few months, them going bad and having to move. Moving is something that I very much despise, so I want a host that I can be sure of won't screw me over in a year or two. Of course, I also want it to be as affordable as possible. $30USD/month is pretty much my budget at the moment, unfortunately. So far, Steadfast Networks looks pretty interesting, but they sound a bit too good to be true. iFastHosting seems OK as well, but again I'm not sure if they're actually all that reliable. Does anyone have any good suggestions for long term reliable hosts? I'm not all that fussed on disk space and bandwidth. About 1Gb diskspace is the absolute minimum though. Thanks

You can find several good host in the budget you have mentioned .. some of the hosts are resellerzoom.com , hostgator.com , hostnine.com and many others and never heard of ifasthosting.com in this forum I prefer resellerzoom failover plans I hope this will help

30 is a great budget to start with... To help narrow down your search, try looking for reviews on companies here and looking at the offers section.. Make a shortlist of hosts, and shoot off some pre-sales questions to them.. Eventually narrowing down to a single host that you feel comfortable with.. Remember to ask lots and lots of questions. Since your budget is decent, don't be tempted by the hosts that attempt to offer you the world for nothing.. Good luck!

Welcome to WHT. Your budget is quite good enough. Do you have any certain control panel in mind?

Thats really the challenge isnt it? Although not a guarantee, look for a company that has been around for several years, has a long history of uptime and minimal negative reviews on WHT or the internet on the whole. Also, are you looing for linux or windows based solutions (or both?) - any certain control panel of interest or is this less important then reliability?

I don't care all that much about control panels and the like. As long as it works . As for windows hosting .. that's definitely a really big no no. I prefer Open/FreeBSD, but I'm fine with Linux as well. As long as it isn't windows. Thanks

LOL - fair enough. Linux you can find anywhere. I think there are fewer options with BSD. Several H-Sphere providers accomodate BSD (just do not create or sell Windows plans). Also a popular CP for linux is cpanel (maybe handles BSD as well??) - Probably a good idea to play with all of the various CP's and decide which one you like and go from there.

I recommend Hostdime. We glad from their services. Their support is fast. They reply messages within one hour and resolve problems quickly. The uptime is 99.5%. The costs inexpensive. Also you can upgrade your account to a dedicated server anytime(their servers managed, too).

Could you please elaborate on that?

Make a shortlist of 5-6 hosts that fit your needs, and then research about them using the search function on this forum, you'll see review about almost any host here.

That's not entirely impressive (IMO), though I guess expectations and needs can vary quite a bit. Do you monitor uptime and that is the approximate uptime that you get on a monthly basis?

Check out knownhost, I have been using them for a while now for my sites and I am really impressed. Wrote a small review about them a while back, click here to read it

KnownHost would also be at the top of my list. However I've only used their VPS products not reseller hosting. I'm assuming their reseller hosting uses similiar servers, same data center and of course support. Jay, please correct me if I'm wrong. Don't take my word for it, search for KnownHost and you'll find plenty of glowing reviews.

I highly recommend Sonet7/Liquidweb. I've been with them for a year now and..they're great. They own two datacenters, have 24/7 tech support for both resellers as well as dedicated servers, have high reliability and they take care of everything..fast. I really can't say enough about them. I recently wrote a detailed 1 year review about them in this forum if you'd like to look it up. They don't get a lot of high profile on here, but I'm pretty sure their target market really isn't WHT.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys . I'll be going with hostnine once the contract with my current host expires (next month).
