Mail sent via cpanel add-on domain is being flagged as spam

Hi all, I'm looking for some pointers for properly setting up mail send from my PHP app on a cpanel installation. I don't know if my problem is related to bad cpanel account config, or incorrect mail send authentication, etc. I've had my own VPS with cpanel for years. The root account domain doesn't really send any mail. I (perhaps naively) setup all my other domains as add-on domains in cpanel. Lately I've been wondering if any of this would be easier were I to recreate those other domains as their own cpanel accounts, but I'm not convinced yet. Anyways, one of the add-on domains sends infrequent emails to some members, plus daily status updates to me. There's been a progression over the last year where gmail started highlighting the "sent via vps.rootdomain.com" and then recently started flagging my own status update emails as spam because of potential forgery (since it's sent to myself from a different domain). I've tried to research this, and I started by ensuring that my mails were sent via an authenticated path, but they still show up in gmail as "sent via vps.rootdomain.com", and I think did get flagged as spam in some contexts. When my own status mails started getting spammed recently, I noted a tip in gmail suggesting I setup an SPF record because the mail from "otherdomain.com" was showing as sent from "rootdomain.com". This didn't help. Can anyone point me to a good info source for how to get this working? Is it easier/better to send mail via a 3rd party? Thanks for any tips.

Do you have this account on your dedicated server? If so, do you have reverse DNS setup? Not setting reverse dns also causes email to end up in junk mail.

Looking at my add-on domains DNS records, I don't see a reverse pointer (nor on the root domain, or any others). These domains are all sharing the same IP (I do have more than one available on my account, just haven't used more than one). If I configure a reverse pointer for this add-on domain, does that mean my single IP always resolves to the add-on domain? I can't think of a problem with that offhand, but not quite sure. Would this be resolved (or easier to resolve) if I moved this domain onto its own cpanel account with a different IP? I would hope in that situation the add-on domain would be sending mail via it's own domain, hopefully making these problems go away?

You want matching forward and reverse DNS for the server hostname, and proper SPF records configured for this. There shouldn't be any need in theory to use another IP.
