If you just have apache without any control panel, you can have the following in each apache virtualhost: However, if you're using a control panel you'll need to configure the control panel to setup open_basedir. For example, with cpanel: WHM > Main > Security > Security > open_basedir

CPANEL WHM 11.30.6 (build 3) CENTOS 5.7 x86_64

See: http://docs.cpanel.net/twiki/bin/vie...MDocs/TweakPhp You should be able to do these steps: WHM > Main > Security > Security > open_basedir Edit: It's likely that you'll either need to restart or reload apache, I'm not sure if cpanel does this automatically when you change open_basedir setting as I'm not a cpanel user.

I'm unsure then why its not taking effect, hopefully someone else with more experience with cpanel can point you in the right direction.
