Serverdivision user -- What's the next?

Posted by Blarblarblar, 04-17-2006, 12:01 PM
Hi all, pls give advise what should I do pls. As a serverdivision user, I found my sites down and tried 2 contact servervision 2 submite a ticket so I found that their own site unable 2 visit. It lasted for days so I have 2 go WHT 2 see what happened. -- their servers switched down by the planet. --I even not informed to do the data backup! So presently what I concern the most is that HOW CAN I MIGRATE MY SITES TO A NEW SERVER? --because the control panel is now no way to access any longer! --If I can get a new server and begin to set up the DNS for all my domains formerly hosted on SERVERDIVISION's server, can that work without loging onto the former user panel to migrate out those sites? WORRIED SO MUCH! --Can I do that??? Really a nightmare! Also, any suggestions for new server? --The requirements just: ASP/PHP host to host about 10 sites, space and bandwidth not that concerned (small space and low traffic) BUT PLS DO BE RELIABLE PLS!

I think every one of their clients received a notice of their shutdown about 30 days ago. As for getting your data...if the server's are offline, that won't happen. Do you have any backups, even old ones?

I hope you have backups. If not you may want to try and retreive what you can from cached internet sites. If you don't have backups, from now on make some!

it seem that their server have been shutdown already

Hi, I did have some backup for the older versions, that does not matter too much, only worried if I can migrate those sites without logging onto the user panel? --it is never reachable! PS. I have not received the notice, now checking my email history, although useless now.

What control panel were they using? Most control panels have a built-in function for transfers/backup restores. If not, you could try doing it manually

As far as I can see the situation is probably like this: the server was shut down, the data on it doesn't exist anymore. hence, you must move on from where you are. At best, you could try contacting TP and ask for their understanding. With a lot of luck on your side, they might still have the data intact and be willing to help you out. To point your sites to a new host you need access to your domain registrar's control panel.

Hi they were using HELM. The login panel IP is unable 2 access, so how can I migrate my domains? --I mean I am afraid that I have no way to set up the NEW DNS for my domains without log onto the former user panel. Any thx for the answer!

Who's your registrar? Maybe the whois info has you listed as the contact. In that case, you'll be able to retrieve the domain name at least. Dan : He would need an extremely good amount of luck on his side with TP. I think it's illegal to give an unauthorised person (Serverdivsion is the only authoirsed entity as far as I can tell) access to data on the server. It's a pretty long longhot (how's that for english??)

Definitely agreed. I still think it can't hurt to try. Strange things have happened (not necessarily at TP).

Which means the OP needs to question whether..... he spend "x" amount of hours trying to get the data back from ThePlanet OR he spend "x" amount of hours updating his site from his old backups.

Was your host the domain registrar? If so, try and contact them. Hopefully they used a provider other then ThePlanet to register domains therefore you should be able to at least save the domain. Which brings on another note, it is very important you get your site up and operation ASAP! Even if its a page explaining the error.

also th eregistars are godaddy and some other 2 regstars. What concerns the most is not the data but how can I migrate the domain names without loging onto the dead server to change he former DNS settings. May I ask for the NIC HANDLES from the different registars to change DNS settings?

Posted by jmweb, 04-18-2006, 12:55 AM
Yes your registrars will change your DNS for you.

You don't need the dead server to change DNS settings. You can either post your domain name here and we can check with which registrar it got registered with, and what's the contact info. Or...you can go to http://www.whois.sc/yourdmainnamehere.com to view the information yourself. If it has your contact info, you'll be able to send a photo ID to the registrar, and they'll hand over the domain for you. If it contains your webhosting company's information, you may be out of luck.

Hey: Server division has been closed on April 1 (It is not an April fool but a real fool). It is not possible to take any backups now. I think the new owners were not capable to pay around USD 1200 per month to The Planet. That's why they closed their business. If you are looking for a great host check out hostingfest.com. Support rocks.
