Long time resolving www - faster w/o the www
Posted by naplesdave, 09-12-2011, 11:37 AM | Hello all,
I am running Apache 2.2 on CENTOS 5.5 i686 with WHM 11.30.3 (build 5) and by using Pingdom and Webpagetest I am seeing a 5 sec delay between first byte and resolution of www on one of my Wordpress sites.
The site was setup in Wordpress to use the www and not simply //sitename...
I LOVE the speed I get when checking my site without the www, but when it sits and resolves, this is taking 5 to 10 seconds - dramatically slowing my site.
Where should I start to look for issues?
Once it gets going it runs fine; just the initial resolving that is stalling out somehow.
Thanks for any help/tip.
Kind regards,
Dave Jackson

Make sure your DNS zone file contains correct entries for WWW as well. Then perform a traceroute to the IP and ensure that the transient path is smooth.
