Each domain using its own SSL certificate for FTP ?

Posted by Raenk, 09-09-2011, 05:59 PM
Well, that. For white label purposes, is it possible to use different SSL certificates on the FTP server ? I want each domain to use its own certificate based on its IP while connecting through FTP. In other words, if say domain1.com and domain2.com have the same IP, both use particular certificate, but if domain3.com is on a different dedicated IP use another certificate. Is it possible ? It is a cPanel server. Thanks

Very possible, there are Multidomain Unified SSL Certificates available, depending on the encryption you require, what vendor you use and how many domains you'll generally be up for around $300+/yr I did find that Comodo had some cheap ones available -> http://www.comodo.com/business-secur...domain-ssl.php

Hi, Thanks for your replies. Although, my question is towards the possibility to configure the server to do what I need. I really don't need a commercial certificate, but the ability to configure a shared self signed certificate and have it work for all the domain on particular IP only and a different certificate for different IP and so on. This has to be for FTP server, not HTTPS. Any thoughts on that ?

you can't just use scp like sane people? ssl-ftp is like.. a bandaid.. for a hole through the skin to the other side

How about you keep on topic and answer the question like sane members do ? The thread is not about finding the best way...

I suppose what you're trying might be technically possible, if you could run different ftpd servers on the box, each with its own conf file. Each conf file would have to have its own listening ip address and corresponding ssl cert/keyfile. Haven't tried it though and not sure cpanel is configurable to that degree. cpanel experts?

Agreed with TDS, though its worth noting that not only would you have to have an FTP server running for every domain, but each one would also have to run on its own port. So, you'd have to educate your users on changing ports. In the end, this would not be worth the work and hassle it would involve, especially since cPanel isn't going to integrate with it.

Thanks to all. And yes, I was looking for a way to do this without much overhead considering is a cPanel server. But having multiple FTP servers and all is overkill. Thanks again
