Websitepanel hosting setup..

Posted by cpq-dk, 09-09-2011, 04:05 AM
I am planning a hosting setup based on Windows with WSP (website panel) as control. There are 5 customers in the system right now. It will run the web (IIS and PHP), DNS, mail, FTP, SQL and MySQL server. Control Panel. All machines are Windows 2008 r2 What is the best way to design it? Domain or workgroup? What is best? With DomainKeys, you should then have 2 additional DNS as external DNS (Split DNS) than those who run on domain controller? How do I get the best possible set-up in the fewest number of servers? I had imagined something Ala: server 1 Web IIS / PHP FTP DNS1 Control Panel server 2 DNS2 Mail (Mailenable) server 3 SQL 2008 R2 MySQL

Let me try to rephrase my question. My plans are to run a Windows 2008 R2 environment with the following: Web IIS / PHP FTP 2 X DNS (Internet facing) Control Panel (Site panel) Mail (Mailenable) SQL 2008 R2 MySQL I have 2 Pcs. DL380 G5 and a MSAp2000 SAN as it will run on. 1, domain or workgroup? 2, where many virtual servers should I lay it about? Have not many customers right now and does not plan to become very large, and would like to keep prices down but not so far down that it does not run correctly. 3, what services should I at all prices avoid having the same server? 4, What can I lie on the same server? 5, does anyone have a best Praktis whitepaper or guide?

Hi, The first combination you imagined is correct and good practice and avoid using single machine having all these stuff together. You can host server2 and server3 together in initial stage but when your customer base increases, you may need to migrate do separate server. server 1 Web IIS / PHP FTP DNS1 Control Panel server 2 DNS2 Mail (Mailenable) server 3 (you may have to eventually manage the consumption disk space) SQL 2008 R2 MySQL Answer of rest of the questions: Domain or workgroup? : Start with the workgroup does anyone have a best Praktis whitepaper or guide? Not really but you can find few articles in WHT. Sorry do not have links right now. where many virtual servers should I lay it about? Are you planning to offer hosting services on physical or virtual boxes? if virtual go for ESX 4.5 /5.0 first.

Hi and thanks for your reply. Domain or Workgroup, Workgroup why? I think that it is somewhat easier to manage admin roles and angang to the various other things like sql and so on and not least the recent upgrade to Exchange as if you already ready with DomainKeys. I will certainly see if I can find some of these in WHT

Np, you can go for domain also. It was a suggestion to start with simpler stuff first.
