It is taking too long for SingleHop to fix this urgent issue!

Posted by CEO-90210, 04-01-2009, 05:06 AM
finally.

Posted by EEssam, 04-01-2009, 05:08 AM
SingleHop needs to fix these network issues completely. Being nice and everything is a plus but uptime is number 1 priority for serious Web hosting providers.

Posted by StackzGaming, 04-01-2009, 05:08 AM
WOW werid. all my game servers are up. its like everything lost connection to the internet but none of the servers physically went down. im sure interested to hear what happened. im pretty sure judging by my server stats as well this isnt the first time this has happened, just the first time ive been on for it.

Posted by net, 04-01-2009, 05:23 AM
It is probably something to do with the network and for sure it is not a power failure.

Posted by StackzGaming, 04-01-2009, 05:33 AM
yeah welll i was worried it was going down the route of the ubquity/voxel/wht attacks for a second.

Hey guys. After investigating yesterday mornings event, this is what happened and what we are going to do make sure that it doesn’t happen again. Starting around 2:50 am until 4:00 am yesterday morning we had a partial outage that affected around 40% of our clients. The OSPF routing broke because a backplane in our switching gear failed. However, instead of just shutting down, which would have activated our backup, it sent error messages and caused connectivity issues. The 24 hour on-site techs were able to work on the module and get it working again normally. To make sure that this doesn’t happen again, and that our backup works as intended, we will be replacing the hardware that failed. We will be changing it out this Saturday night, April 4, between 11pm and 4am CST. This maintenance could cause up to 15 minutes of outage. Once in place, we will configure it so in the future our backup does work and redundancy to avoid this kind of issue is established. We know that our network in the last two months has not performed as well as it has historically since we have been upgrading and tweaking it. This, however, was an isolated event, in that it was hardware failure, which makes its occurrence rare for starters, but even more so since the redundancy component didn't function properly. We hate when this kind of unforeseen event occurs. We also know that you hate it even more, you have trusted your data and your business to us!!! We can assure you that we are working around the clock to make sure that the network you have is the most capable, robust, and reliable one around- and to prove your trust in us is sound. In the future, if you have any doubts as to what is going on with our network, feel free to follow us on Twitter .com/Singlehop We keep this up to date, specially if there are any network issues. Also, feel free to contact your Account Executive as they, as well as I, are more than willing to credit your account for the inconvenience this has caused you. Thank you for your patience, Daniel Salcedo Communications Manager SingleHop.com

Your welcome. If we are having issues with our network and it seems like you cant log on- do check our Twitter/singlehop page it will have as up to date info as we have. We are also working on a widget that gives our clients info on our network status also. .ds Last edited by SinglehopDS; 04-02-2009 at 01:58 PM. Reason: typo

Hey well I wanted to know if SingleHop went down or something? I can't access my server, not even their website. Anyone knows what's going on? Can someone post their tech support number please?

Hi, try this: http://www.ip-adress.com/whois/singlehop.com s-f-r-j

My server is down too. This is too often. This is the third time in 2 weeks. the last 2 times was down at about 2AM EST time for about 1-2h. I am moving away.

Posted by rickb12, 04-02-2009, 06:43 PM
Just spoke to Brooks. He told me that they're encountering some sort of network issue at this time.

Posted by EEssam, 04-02-2009, 06:43 PM
Network down again - SingleHop.com unreachable. You guys should really move SingleHop.com Web site to another network. It's not logical we should post in WHT when we have issues instead of contacting you directly.

Posted by IsThatJose, 04-02-2009, 06:44 PM
Yes, but I'm looking for their toll free number Did they tell you how long would it be before it gets up again?!

Posted by digdugdog, 04-02-2009, 06:44 PM
my server is up, but I can't access there website.

digdugdog, my server is down. I can't even ping it! Ugh my customers will be mad...lol

Posted by jalapeno55, 04-02-2009, 06:47 PM
They don't even ping: C:\Users\J>ping singlehop.com Ping request could not find host singlehop.com. Please check the name and try again.

Posted by SinglehopDS, 04-02-2009, 06:47 PM
At this moment we are experiencing some network issues. It may be related to what happened early morning April 1. More updates ASAP. .ds

This is because their two nameservers are on the singlehop network (on the same subnet even): jimr-macpro:~ jimr$ ping ns1.singlehop.com PING ns1.singlehop.com (67.212.167.90): 56 data bytes ^C --- ns1.singlehop.com ping statistics --- 1 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss jimr-macpro:~ jimr$ ping ns2.singlehop.com PING ns2.singlehop.com (67.212.167.106): 56 data bytes ^C --- ns2.singlehop.com ping statistics --- 3 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss jimr-macpro:~ jimr$

Ugh I can't believe they went down completely I wonder how long is this going to stay! Does anyone know their tech support number?

Posted by tkam, 04-02-2009, 06:53 PM
Seems to be quite a few network issues the past few months....

Posted by SinglehopDS, 04-02-2009, 06:53 PM
Everything is 100% again. Saturday maintenance is focused on resolving this issue.

Posted by jalapeno55, 04-02-2009, 06:55 PM
LOL

Posted by cheaptraffic, 04-02-2009, 06:56 PM
It is back now.

Posted by IsThatJose, 04-02-2009, 06:56 PM
They have fixed the issue! Thanks god! It went down for 10minutes and I've received about 20emails.. At least they have it under control now.

Posted by jalapeno55, 04-02-2009, 06:58 PM
Does anyone else want to see this performed sooner? Like lastnight at 11pm?

Posted by tkam, 04-02-2009, 07:04 PM
Yeah it really seems like it should be an emergency maintenance issue, not something you wait a few days to fix. I also wonder why @ that layer in the network why isn't the network gear redundant?

Posted by Jacob Wall, 04-02-2009, 07:04 PM
Their network has been rocky the last two months, as they stated in the [Outage] forums.

Posted by HJI Technologies LLC, 04-02-2009, 07:10 PM
Everything seems to be back to normal now.

Posted by SinglehopDS, 04-02-2009, 07:18 PM
Everything is back to 100%. The reason that there have been issues in the past few weeks is related to our ongoing network upgrades. We have spent over $250,000 to make sure that our network is as robust and reliable as possible, but tweaking it to work flawlessly has proven harder than expected. The Maintenance this Saturday will address all of the issues we have recently encountered. About our tech support number: 312 447 2580

Posted by SinglehopDS, 04-02-2009, 07:39 PM
We want to make sure that the issue is resolved definitively. If we rushed to address it without proper planning our customers could see more irregularities than necessary. Measure six times, cut once. That's the honest answer.

Posted by jalapeno55, 04-02-2009, 08:04 PM
Not sure I totally buy that, can you explain in detail what they are doing? I just can't see it taking that long. I mean network guys should be working through the night to get an issue like this resolved.

Posted by danushman, 04-02-2009, 08:30 PM
Hello -- I can assure you we are working around the clock on it. Basically, we have two primary distribution routers. They are configured to fail over if anything happens to one of them. However, one of the routers is throwing hardware error messages. The router does not go down but it stops routing and because the fail over does not detect an outage it has failed to fail over. We have a new Cisco 6506-E in stock and are planning to replace the faulty hardware Saturday night. Believe me when I say this: NO ONE takes this more seriously than we do. Dan

Posted by SinglehopDS, 04-02-2009, 08:35 PM
Sure. Two things. One- we need to give customers at least 48-hours notice before we make any major network changes. Two- replacing the backplane on the chassis is major work, if we don't do it carefully the consequences would not be good. Therefore we are focusing on getting the new router in as soon as we can.

Posted by EEssam, 04-03-2009, 12:21 AM
Not funny. SingleHop is an excellent provider if they can just fix these network issues.

Posted by jalapeno55, 04-03-2009, 09:43 AM
Thats what the other guy said, what I am trying to find out is why it takes so long to configure a Cisco 6506-E?

Posted by jalapeno55, 04-03-2009, 09:45 AM
One- I'm pretty sure they are willing to make an exception if it means their site will be down or down more, plus I think its been over 48 since this problem first started. Two- I'm still not seeing how you can't be careful for a few hours now, and get it fixed. Last edited by jalapeno55; 04-03-2009 at 09:52 AM.

Posted by danushman, 04-03-2009, 09:46 AM
We have a maintenance window scheduled for tomorrow night to replace parts in one of the 6506-E's that are causing these issues. It is not a software configuration issue, we're talking hardware that is failing and throwing random error messages. Our techs, network admins and staff have been working non-stop to take care of this. We are always careful. This window needs to be scheduled with our customers. We have already scheduled it, it is for tomorrow night, in the meanwhile, we are carefully watching the routers to make sure that traffic continues to be routed properly. I'm not a tech myself, but I do have faith in our team. We have several decades of combined experience in networking, in systems administration, and we have a very large vested interest in this being resolved today rather than tomorrow (figuratively speaking) so you can be certain of one thing: *no one takes this more seriously than we do.* This is our business, our livelihood, and our customers businesses and their livelihoods. I know these are all words. Let me ask for a little more patience while we get through this and then we can all enjoy the positive results. So we are clear, Saturdays maintenance window (starting at 11 PM) will have some downtime associated with it for some customers. The details of this are in the maintenance notification that we sent out to our clients earlier this week. Dan Last edited by danushman; 04-03-2009 at 09:52 AM.
