Help with spam (bot?)....

Posted by pasobuff, 05-13-2011, 03:32 PM
Hi all - hoping I could get a little help here - first, I'm NOT a computer tech! Sorry if my discription is 'simple'... Brand new computer (less than a month old - Dell).....had tech come out and set it up (got him through Dell also)....since then, been getting literally THOUSANDS of emails a day, through the owners' website email address.....not sure if the new computer has anything to do with it. So many 'spam' emails have been going out that the web hoster has shut down the web site....emails are NOT going to people in the address book - but to unknown persons. Looking for some help on how to find out if there is maybe code in the web site, or how these emails are being sent (to the home email account too!) using the home email account..... Don't want to go to a brand new web hosting company as this is an established business, owner is not very computer-savvy either - and the site needs to use Zen-Cart. The web hosting company is NOT being helpful at this point other than shutting down the site..... I'll try to answer any questions....thanks in advance!

Use domains.live.com and protect SPAM, you can filter junk mail sender. Also use SPF to protect yourself.

Filtering is not the problem - someone has it set so that thousands of emails are sent 'from' this email address - trying to stop that.....someone is sending emails using someone elses' legitimate business email address and is locking up their system and caused their website to be shut down..... What is SPF? remember - I'm not a tech person...thanks!

Did you check the mail header? If that send from any hosting server send abuse complain to their DC.

I will take another look at that - thanks. I think they did come from the web site hosting server, who is not being any help with solving the problem other than shutting the site down. .....
