GigeNET is not down, the gigeservers IRC network is down because of an unplanned emergency fiber maintenance going on by abovenet, they are resplicing fiber and should be backup shortly. It is also affecting ProxyShield customers. They did not notify of this so it was not scheduled.

Amazing it is only effecting some Proxyshield customers. WHT seems to be running fine.

They really shouldn't call it "unplanned emergency fiber maintence" they should just say what actually happened...ie some bozo plowed their car / suv into a telephone pole, and took out a ton of folks when the fiber line went down.
Anyone know where it actually took place (east coast, cough, cough) ?

I believe this is a DDOS Mitigation network and there could be some special arrangements with abovenet. Not a lot of uplink likes IRC or ddos.
