Free SSL?

Posted by smsmasters, 03-30-2011, 01:54 PM
I just need a cert for use in WHM/Cpanel. Is there such a thing as free?

some providers provide free SSL certificate, Namecheap (you need to purchase the domain name to get the Comodo PositiveSSL) or UK2.NET (you need to purchase server to get the FREE unlimited SSL certificates)

Thanks, is there a way to get a proper SSL cert working just for logging into WHM/cPanel?

Look into startssl.com

http://cert.startcom.org/ Doesn't work for subdomains (i.e. whm.server.com) but I do believe they will give you one for server.com, etc.

get a comodo 90 day trial and then use rapidssl's promotion to exchange the 90 day cert for a 2 year and 90 day cert.

Get one for less than $25/year. Then you can also use it for all your other services (FTP, MAIL, etc.). If $25/year is too much to consider, then maybe you should consider using a reseller account to host websites.

I've been able to get one for subdomains in the past, I think you just have to verify that the 'root' domain is indeed yours

Consider purchasing Comodo's PositiveSSL http://www.positivessl.com/ 10$ SSL comes with 99.3% Browser Compatibility, 128/256 bit encryption, $10,000 warranty.

namecheap.com also have the above offer or geotrust RapidSSL, http://www.namecheap.com/ssl-certifi...tificates.aspx

cacert.org maybe. but comodo positiveSSL is very cheap. $10/y not a big deal (or even lower if you buying domain from namecheap) startssl free only for personal/organization site. isn't it?
