Where is my my.cnf file ? Problem with max_user_connections, vB

Posted by Gearbox, 01-24-2011, 06:11 PM
I need a bit of help finding my my.cnf file. Its not there in the /etc folder. I run a vB forum on a dedicated server, use centOS5 and have root access. I am getting this error ( for a few minutes only) when i run the full backup option in cpanel. User Test_Prototype already has more than 'max_user_connections' active connections /home/Test/public_html/forums/includes/class_core.php on line 311

Check your /root directory although that's an unusual place for it to be. Pending failure, do a search for it: find / -name my.cnf

Usually /etc/my.cnf

Here is my output root@Prototype [/]# find / -name my.cnf /usr/local/cpanel/whostmgr/my.cnf /etc/my.cnf my.cnf from /usr/local/cpanel/whostmgr/my.cnf [mysqld] set-variable = max_connections=500 log-slow-queries safe-show-database my.cnf from /etc/my.cnf [mysqld] datadir=/var/lib/mysql socket=/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock skip-locking skip-innodb query_cache_limit=1M query_cache_size=32M query_cache_type=1 max_user_connections=25 max_connections=500 interactive_timeout=10 wait_timeout=10 connect_timeout=10 thread_cache_size=128 key_buffer=16M join_buffer=1M max_allowed_packet=16M table_cache=1024 record_buffer=1M Is the second one the correct file ? Also, what would be a safe number for the max_connections value ? I run a dedicated amd 940 quad core, 4 GB, 2X 250 GB. This db error happens only for a few minutes when i m using the full backup tool in cpanel and for a few seconds when i dump the db using mysqldump.

The 2nd one is the correct one. Max user connections could be raised to 250. Then restart mysql.
