Traffic shaping

I'm looking for a solution, which can do traffic shaping on VPS. That means, a solution which reads the traffic of any VPS IP and then limits/reduces the bandwidth to this IP if traffic exceeded a particular amount, in a particular period.
I've come across many appliances which do cost between $7500 and a quadrillion $$, as also etinc.com for a bit less, but I'm still searching for a more simple solution which could be less costy but still professional and efficient.
Can anyone point me to a direction to look at, or show me some known solutions for VPS providers? Or are all bigger VPS providers just simply use the standard $xx'000 appliances for such tasks? Thanks a million!

| Posted by kevinnivek, 12-12-2010, 05:12 PM | | If you can build your own box, throw FreeBSD + PF on there , and you can queue your traffic with as many different tables as you like.
