Reselling with subdomains? help.

Posted by phridge, 04-07-2005, 03:56 PM
I am thinking of reselling hosting with an optional subdomain (yourname.myserver.com). I am worried about spammers. If someone sets up an account with me and starts sending spam email from my subdomain email account, the person that is hosting me will charge $100 per spam email sent. I would like to know if there is anyway of transfering this $100 liability onto my clients?

Easy, just charge the same (or more) if your clients spam. Your TOS is up to you when you are reselling.

Do you think it's realistic that you're going to be able to collect $100 from a spammer everytime he sends out a spam e-mail. I highly doubt it. phridge - If your host is actually charging you $100 per spam e-mail sent out from one of your users, then you need to change hosts. That's the most absurd TOS "catch" that I've ever heard.

Imagine if some spammer signed up for your service (they eventually do) and sent out thousands of spam e-mails. Is your host really going to charge you millions of dollars for the e-mails? Doesn't sound realistic to me.

I only get charged if they send it from my domain. ie. if they get a subdomain off me and a couple of email addresses. So I should be safe if I just let people register with their own domains!!
