server uptime monitor software

Posted by depalma, 03-29-2005, 08:33 AM
Hi I'm looking for a couple of pieces of software. One that monitors the server up time monitoring of many different servers. I'm looking for a good software program that can do this from my own computer (regularly pinging the servers for their uptime). Does anyone have any recommendations - preferably software that doesn't cost too much (not a hosted solution). Also, is there any software or service that can compare the speed of different servers, so you can see how they compare with each other? many thanks Barnaby Last edited by ldcdc; 03-29-2005 at 09:25 AM.

We have been using nagios with good effect. But it is installed in a seperate server that has good bandwidth to support its monitoring. I am not sure whether installing it in a local box will help it or not.

We have nagios installed on a local box. Doesn't use much resources. Does the job exactly as you want. Monitors load, uptime of server, uptime of services, pings, reports problems on current server. Can also be setup to monitor multiple servers and remote machines. Been using it for two years, very happy. Plus its free - nagios.org. Installing and configuring can take a while though.

Site Vigil is very affective and runs on your own computer >> http://www.silurian.com/sitevigil/

www.paessler.com There is no better software available in my opinion. We're currently monitoring more than 100 servers using their enterprise version, which uses the same core engine as the free version. R'gds Dean

opmanager 100X better then all the others. I have used IPcheck, IPmonitor, hybodus, netsaint and all the others. If you plan to have a lot of stuff to monitor then OPmanager is the best thing for yea. There netflow APP is also very nice. But it's not that cheap, I think it's about $750 or so.

I've used Spherious Server Monitor 2.1 and it worked rather well considering it's free software. I've also used EasyMonitor.com which offers free server monitoring. Hope this helps Ross

I am also using Opmanager, it is VERY nice, I get up to the second reporting that is second to none. Only thing is there is no easy customer interface.
